I have been wondering about this for a little while. I know AFL players are on the big bucks, but what about VFL players?

Could someone please tell me what the average VFL wage would be?
thanks heaps

one of my teachers used to play for werribee a few years back he was on around 200-300 per game and he was just an avg players for them...

they probably only pay the top players, thats why you see alot of ex afl players going to local footy its where all the money is at

The VFL have a salary cap and that player payments are taxed. With a marginal income tax rate of 30%, VFL clubs have to pay 42% more for the player to recieve the same payment.

The tax man is catching up with local footy as well. Many local clubs are issuing group certificates to senior players.

Nevertheless it's my understanding that, other than marquee players, match payments range from $250 to $1000 per game. There are also sign-on fees and other incentives for some players.

Thanks for that, those wages are not too bad for a couple of hours work

The VFL has no salary cap. They have a Salary Agreement, very different.

The agreement states each club will pay only to a certain amount, however, there is no penalties for paying over the agreement, which is why a few teams such as port remain competative, as they can afford better players.

And as for the taxation, most VFL players have a F/T job, and thus, like any australian, you do not recieve tax benifits from your second one.

A lot more than couple of hours a week go into it

agreed, most state league clubs you will be doing 3 trainings per week + probably 1 or 2 gyms a week, not to mention your whole saturday is gone, i dont know many footy players who do anything the morning before a game.

That's not true, all the players are paid some amount of money.
