Vickery Receives KB old number a good read....

wait!! isnt JON 29!?

THERE are not many physical attributes common to both Ty Vickery and Kevin Bartlett.

The 403-game legend, famous for his balding head and short stature is the complete contrast to this year's first-round draftee, whose messy mop of hair sits atop a 200cm frame.

While they opposites in appearance, they do have one thing in common, as Vickery will wear Bartlett's famous no. 29 for the Tigers.

Vickery played this year for the Sandringham Dragons and Haileybury College as a ruckman/forward and will be groomed by coach Terry Wallace to play up forward to start his AFL career.

"Terry said he's happy for me to start as a forward, particularly since I'm younger to develop my body and those aspects of my game. Hopefully I can move back into the ruck as I get older and put on some weight."

Looks like we might see quite a bit of him next year.

Show us what u can do Ty!!!!
Who here votes for JON to be delisted:confused:??????

Is this going to be a recurring thing for Pick 8's at the club?

Like the captain wearing no.17.

to those tiger supports with better memories, or have been alive to see KB play, has there been anyone who has lived up to the famous 29 after KB retired?

off the top of my head previous 29 wearers include: JON and ross funke?
after that there is nothing

Recent 29s -

Jason Torney - good.
Alex Gilmour - Aaaaaargh!
Todd Menegola - hmmmmmm...

Funcke was 27.

It's worth noting the player who wore 29 before KB was Ron Branton - Club Captain in the early 60s and 3-time B&F winner. It is not necessarily just KB's number in the club History - (yes, he's the best, but Branton also deserves recognition).

that is exactly right but in ty's mind set it might be a big achievement so in one way yes but in another no

Thx Wallaby your superior knowledge of the number 29 is to be commended,:)

but for all new players who get their richmond numbers, while it is good to acknowledge the history of the number really it should have no bearing as to if a player is going to be any good, i would think some players should be as good in 1 or 99, i mean i would play in any number just to run on the field with the tigers

Vickery should have been given no.1, they should have retired no. 29 and give JON a number above 50
No.1 won't be given to anyone, it is to stay free until Newy finishes his captaincy.

I don't disagree with the JON number though, maybe give him the ultimatum that this is where he is at with the club and if he wants his number to rise, then his form will need to rise dramatically as well.

Not so sure Todd menegola wore 29 either.

Actually, the first to wear 29 after KB ....a few seasons later was Brett Mahoney..a De La Salle product who never kicked on.
