how can the swans v pies game be labelled " the big game "...or " blockbuster"...

it is a joke and false advertising to anyone who has not seen or been to an afl game before...

9th v 14th....can the pies make it to 9th position, will the swans drop to 11 or 12...dont miss this hugely important fixture in the 2004 premiership season...

what a joke.....!!!!!

makes me want to vomit.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How are they supposed to advertise it...."Sit down and watch 2 ordinary sides play what's probably going to be a crap game and have you thinking by the end that you would have been better off going to the pub and cracking onto that skank in the corner that even Wayne Carey wouldn't touch"?

I've put this week down as the week I lay the paving in my backyard.

No football on as far as I am concerned... and couldnt give 2 hoots about Collingwood and Sydney.

Good weekend to catch up on stuff around the house.

Just the same as a Swans supporter I didn't go near a game or the TV last week.

Your grey matter must be small enough that you are unable to grasp the concept of a blockbuster are you?

Never mind. Spoon time for you.

it's a clash of the states... of course sydney are going to get victoria's "biggest" club to play against them as the only game a weekend, imagine the marketing. Whether it was 15 v 16 it'd still be a biggish game.

Plenty of 'real' games on in SA, Vic and WA though. Time to fill up the suburban grounds and learn about real footy again.

If everyone liked the regional leagues as much as you there would be record attendances every week. You rate Chris Gowans higher than Michael Voss.

I'm off to the VFL game this weekend. Won't even bother tuning in to the Mockbuster.

Why not have 4 games one weekend and 4 the next? Seems fairly simple to me.

Or we could just have the bye weeksned IMO... that wouldbe better than a split round.

OK dimwit. Selective amnesia I see. Lets have a look at this years "True" blockbusters, the big 3, Pies, Bombers, Blues and their ladder positions before those matches

Rd 3 Carlton (8) v Essendon (13)
Rd 4 Collingwood (15) v Essendon (9)
Rd 6 Carlton (12) v Collingwood (16)

Now there are three cases for the dept of fair trading to look at.

Totally Agree! Anyone would have thought it was Grand Final Week the way they were carrying on last night on The Footy Show!

I mean a street parade down the streets of Sydney & hiring out SkyCity to do the Show last night! All they needed was a couple of Player Revues & it would have been The Grand Final Edition of The Footy Show!!

Blockbusters should be able to stand on their own two feet. By that I mean Anzac Day, Showdowns, Derbys don't need all this fake publicity to try and make the game bigger than what it actually is.
Unfortuantely since Collingwood is involved Ed can't keep his mouth shut.

In Qld its not shown on 10 only on Fox.I have Fox,but I will prefer to watch the Wallabies everytime over that match.
Now come on, World Cup Final rematch over the Pies, no contest.

Sydney and Brisbane ratings for the Pies will be non existent.

“Blockbuster” games are games that are isolated, i.e. no other games played that day, generally between two clubs with high membership numbers and promoted heavily. This weekend's game between Sydney and Collingwood is a typical blockbuster. It doesn’t really matter where on the ladder the clubs are, that’s just part of the marketing. If they are high on the ladder, the game is sold as a clash of ladder leaders. If they are not, it is sold as a clash of traditional rivals or some other line. This weekend it seems to be how far Sydney has come. The real value of the blockbuster is the TV audience. We will all be watching on Saturday night because it will be cold and wet and there is no other footy on. That is why the ruling body's endorsement of the dominance of Blockbuster games by Collingwood is unfair. Of course these games rate, there is no other footy on to watch.

The Footy Show contains segments that are enjoyable and some that are not, regulars who are amusing and those who are not. The over emphasis and positive spin that Collingwood receives is frustrating for most non Collingwood supporters. I can understand the frustration which leads contributors to complain on this forum. The smug reply “If you don’t like it, don’t watch it” is simplistic and ridiculous.

Simple ideas don't come easily for the AFL.

How can you have a blockbuster if it has to compete with 3 other games ?
