I'm still shocked that a potential top 10 player like Rance fell to us at Pick 18 - and then we pipped Putt from Essendon, whom seemed shattered when we read out his name....

and will pick up another few youngsters in psd and rookie.

Our recruiting this year - has been very smart and calcualting, i just hope we don;t stuff it with Richards - but i don't think we will as we got Putt.

happy to draft Gourdis

nice one - i say nice one:thumbsu:

There was a big cultural shift at the draft yesterday.

The 'project' players were overlooked. Smouha, Gaertner, Gourids, Mulligan would all have been snapped up in previous years.

In the debate of production v potential - the clubs went production (mostly).

Gourdis is too selfless. He prefers to pass and give away goals than get them himself. Eventually a key forward can't be that modest - they need to want to be the man.

He also switched kicking foot a couple of years ago. He can kick it a mile but can get the yips and can spray a few. He is certainly not a natural when it comes to his kicking.

Thanks Weaver.

Interestingly afl.com.au has small highlight packages of around 20 of the draftees and Gourdis, Bellchambers and Gaertner were included. Too bad for everyone who wanted to see some of the actual drafted players. But these 3 all must be rated and seems odd for all 3 to have missed. But your theory could be the reason. 'Spraying a few' from a long term Tiger key forward has given me more than the yips LOL. Lets go Collard

Rance and 'the Cotch' were included in the highlights and liked the look of those two very much indeed from the small bits I saw. Cotchin front and centre and away we go a couple of times finishing off with pinpoint delivery:thumbsu:

Good point Tigerfan on getting a better look at the leftovers at training rather than using pick 64. Better if a few are also down at Punt Rd too rather than elsewhere so we can get a REAL close look at them.

Gourdis for No.1 PSD.

And one of Collard/Pfeffer(sp?)/Geartner(sp?)/Bellchambers for No.1 Rookie Pick.

I was hoping we'd pick up Collard/Pfeiffer in the PSD before I knew that David Gourdis was going to be left on the side lines!
Talk about upside!

Height 193cm
Weight 88kg

Draft Camp results: FASTEST over 20m (2.83sec wow!)
Repeat 30m sprints No.6 at 24.22sec
HIGHEST vertical jump by far! (81cm wow wow wow!) (next best a distant 74cm)

Another key forward to put pressure on Schultz, Hughes etc or compliment them!

With his speed, which full back can keep up?

Common Tiges, give us some excitement! GET HIM!!!!!

Ps Apologies for the spelling typo in the title of the thread!

I had a standing vertical jump of 87cm when I was younger. Maybe I should have gone in the draft too

After reading the following from the AFL site I would like to add my name to the growing chorus of Tigers fans who would like to see Gourdis at Punt Rd be it senior list or rookie list.
DAVID GOURDIS

Subiaco, WA, Tall forward, March 14, 1989, 192.4cm, 88.9kg

Bio: Tall, athletic forward who is strong on the lead. Showed outstanding athletic ability at the 2007 NAB AFL Draft Camp, ranking first overall for the 20m sprint (2.83 sec) and in the running vertical jump (101cm). He also ranked in the top 8 per cent in the six-by-30m repeat sprints.

So what if he occasionally sprays a few kicks, Richo does and has 700+ goals for his career, if Gourdis could have half of Richos total for a career then I'd gladly take that.

C'mon RT...can we please get a dead eye dick for our next long term KP forward! It's not good for the mids morale nor the supporters;) We all know Richo is an out and out champion, but.....

It would have been ludicrous to use pick 64 when we had first pick in the PSD, especially when so few clubs were going to be picking after us. There is still another list lodgement to go, and we can get the draft leftovers down to have a better look at. We'll know on Tuesday which uncontracted players will be in the PSD and we'll also have time to have a good think about the players left from the draft. So far only 6 clubs are in the PSD (and Bulldogs are after welsh), so a good chance for us to get a good player there plus another with pick 1 in the rookie draft.:thumbsu:

Just watched the Vic vs WA game and some aspects of his game looks fantastic. His contested marking would have to be one of the top in this draft.

However, since his kicking was no good I'm happy we didn't get him.

He takes a strong pack mark at 70m out, BUT, then he kicks it straight to a defender...

...we don't need that.

As for the PSD I hope there are better options out there. I wouldn't be able to stand anymore forwards who constantly miss goals... apart from a missed goal it is essentially a direct kick to the chest of your opponent as he then gets to kick out and set up a goal for an 11 point turn-around.

In the future as all 16 teams become more and more equal I can easily see the teams with the greatest goal accuracy having enough of an edge to win a lot more games than an equally talented team with a "Richo".

I agree with getting Gourdis. If we pick richards, I will be disappointed as it will be a real slap in the face to Pattison.

We already have a 1st ruck, and an emerging second ruck. We already have 2 younger ruckman who in case of emergency next year, could fill in.

Why have a 5th ruck on the list?? Is this normal at other clubs?

The difference is this time someone at the club may actually work with the kid from the time he got there to correct his kicking, don't think anyone ever did with Richo. The other difference is he would not be our sole target up forward like Richo has been for most of his career. Anyway Buddy sprays shots just as much as Richo but I'm sure if we could we would have him in our side in a heartbeat, simply because when they are on they are impossible to stop. Not saying Gourdis is that sort of player, because I have only seen him play the 1 game even then it was a tape of the champs, but lets take a risk on a player that has lightning speed and can jump tall buildings. We got the players we needed to cover some holes in our list now lets get one who could be anything. Then use the rookie picks to play it a little safer.

In a perfect world I'd like Collard in the PSD and Gourdis number 1 in the Rookie Draft with Pffeifer lasting to our number 2 pick. But I'd be satisfied with 2 from these 3. They might all get snapped up in the PSD though!

Arrowsmith is a slow and soft wingman, I hope there is something better!

GM has said a couple of times now that we need a small forward who can harass and apply pressure, would this include Collard? I know he is a Jetta-like player but what is his defensive side like?

Has played HBF in his junior days, pretty sure i saw him line up there for WA in the under18 carnival when he was in it.

Gourdis, collard and pfeiffer - make it happen tigers :thumbsu:
