Get off it!! He was sensational and CANNOT continue to carry the whole team which he has done for years now!
If it wasn't for Pav's efforts yesterday through the middle north would have won by 6+ goals!

I don't know many players in the league who can dominate through the middle with 2 players tagging him (Firrito then Gibson) and then go foward and have 3 defenders and still manage to kick goals!

Pav has to much on his plate! If he makes a mistake or two thats fine because no one is perfect and unless someone else step's up to help you cannot expect him to do anymore!

I can expect more, because I can see more there.

He doesn't have to carry the whole team, he just has to apply himself 100%. If he did that, he'd be the complete player we all know he is.

Pav should be streets ahead of guys like Ablett and Judd.

Your kidding? He has to apply himself 100%? Surely you see he tries his guts out every game for the side and single handedly keeps us in the game and you expect more? :o

Just because the media creams themselves over midfielders like Ablett (back half stat whore midfielder) and Judd (he is a star of the midfield) doesn't mean that is right. Pavlich can not only go in the middle and win his own ball but he can be a 70+ goal a year foward.... He is miles ahead of Judd and Ablett IMO.

Judd and Ablett are great players, don't get me wrong, but If i had a choice i would choose Pavlich a top 10 foward/ top 20-30 midfielder over a Judd or Ablett who are top 5 midfielder and thats it.

But each to there own. ;)

Pav's effort has always been his biggest problem.

It does not mean he wasn't BOG for us though.

Just about every touch he had, led to a score.

First couple of rounds yea ok i agree (which is why he didn't score in our votes for a while, think he only has 14 prior to the north game) but the last 3/4 weeks he and hase and scham have been the reason we have played so well because they are doing so well in the middle.

My arguement is the fact that even though Pav made a couple of mistakes he has love because if you take him out and we get smashed. I'd rather him have 20+ touches 3 goals and 2 or 3 mistakes over him not playing.

No, I'm not kidding. I don't see that he tries his guts out every game, and that's exactly my point. Guys like Haselby and Schammer are trying their guts out, Pav likes to set the cruise control on about 85%. That still makes him better than most running around, but I can't help but feel were missing out on the whole package sometimes.

I'd still rather have Pav than Ablett or Judd any day. I'd just like to see the whole Pav every game. It doesn't seem too much to ask of a professional athlete.

Well maybe we are watching different games live, because when i see Pavlich live (to hard to tell from watching on t.v.) he looks like he is giving 100% but then again i guess its just a difference of opinion. :thumbsu:

Its possible, and like you say there are differences of opinion.

I would just add though that I sit on the fence where the players do their cool down walk when they come off for a spell. Its pretty obvious who has pushed themselves to their limits.

Ooooh, now that we have a thread for this, I can say it...

The BYB voting has not been utilised as it was originally intended, I feel. People seem to be voting for the sake of voting. How many games has Nick Suban (bless 'im, but still) made his mark on? Yet he leads Hill, who has been awesome and really changed the course of a few games.

Getting ten touches and generally having no influence of the game should not earn BYB votes. Not everybody is on the same page here so I am placing little trust in the votes reflecting anything useful.

Was a good idea IP, but I think it's turned out to be no good.

Yeah, nah.

When I vote for the BYB I think 'has he had a good game by rookie standards' not 'was he one of the standouts who won us the game'.

If you want it to be the latter then you might as well just give the BYB award to the kid who polls the most votes in the POTY award. But that seems kind of boring because rookies would only poll genuine votes on a handful of occasions over the season.

So I just rank the rookies against each other each game and there's been plenty of games when Suban has been better than Hill - especially with his hard work and 1%ers off the ball.

I don't think anyone would dispute that Hill is our most valuable rookie by some margin but I've got no problem with Suban leading because he's been very consistent at doing the job asked of him this year.

Hill has just been disadvantaged by the fact that his really good games have been 10 times better than any of the others but because of the scoring system he still only gets one more vote than the next best.

I wonder how much hauling that 100kg frame through the midfield week after week takes out of him and maybe at times he just doiesn;t have any more to give?

I agree at times he looks laconic and doesn;t do the defensive things

POTY
7 - Hasleby
6 - Ibbotson
5 - Pavlich
4 - Duffield
3 - Sandilands
2 - Johnson
1 - Hill

BYB
3 - Suban
2 - Hill
1 - deBoer

If Hill is our 7th best player on the ground how can Suban poll higher in the BYB?

Is it because we have higher expectations of Hill?

I must say I'm shocked at the votes Suban is getting, especially actually polling votes in the POTY. He must have come across a lot better on the tv, than he did live. I thought his first three quarters were average, and it was only in the last where he actually did anything. I still don't think he does enough, and I'd like to see him run a lot more. Personally, I thought Pearce showed him up quite easily.

Just gonna bump this thread whenever I have things to say about votes...

I agree Chris. I thought Suban was good... maybe his best game... but in relation to the others, I don't think he was as good as them.

Walters and de Boer were by far the best by my eyes.

But I also think Hill has been seriously under rated, just looking at the votes. I think he did a job very well for a first year player. Just because he didn't get 2 goals and 20 touches running through the middle, doesn't mean he didn't have a good game for a young guy... just means it wasn't his best. But that's not how we should be voting for them IMO.

We should be voting for them based on the role they're playing. He looked pretty handy forcing the link up off half back IMO.

Voting is a very subjective thing IMO.

My idea of good play, or a good game by a player could be very different to someone else's. Plus I am likely to give someone zero points if they make such a horrendous stuff up, or they squib out of a contest, but still have an otherwise good game.

eg. if someone chickens out of a marking contest, or declines to tackle then I will leave them out of the votes (or only give them 1 or 2) even if they otherwise had a 5 point game. And furthermore, my idea of chickening out could also be very different to yours!

But we do tend to get things pretty much spot on. Our top 4 of Hasleby, Taz, Duff and Sandi seems correct IMHO.
