ROTY

Fantastic effort seeing we were playing against 25 ****EN blokes !!!!!!!!!

POTY
5: Thompson
4: Rutten
3: Edwards
2: van Berlo (leading contested possie getter, first game over 20 touches)
1: Knights
Apologies to S. Stevens, thought he was the only forward who looked even mildly dangerous today.

Rookie:
2: Knights
1: Douglas
Honorable mention to Griff, great effort again the giant.

POTY:

5. Thompson- Absolutely superb all day long. One of the few midfielders who looked capable of winning a clearance.

4. Mattner- Perhaps his best game for the AFC. So much courage, so clean and just about won every contest he was in.

3. Rutten- Destroyed Pavlich; kept him goalless after kicking 6 last week. In AA form.

2. van Berlo- 24 possessions, a career high, and a game high 12 contested possessions. Kicked a great goal in the third quarter when we desperately needed one. Great game yet again.

1. Stevens- Only forward who looked dangerous today.

BTM:

3. Hudson- Top effort from the big man, his best game since his return IMO.

2. Mattner- Terrific commitment from Marty.

1. Bassett- Ran to every contest despite the fact he looked as though he was about to drop dead.

Rookie:

2. Griffin- 18 hit-outs, did well in the ruck.

1. Douglas- Great first half.

2. Griffen

POTY

5. Thompson - yet AGAIN proves to be a player who we can rely on to perform when the going gets tough. He actually seems to play better in our losing games. Sensational year so far.
4. Edwards - Solid game as you'd expect from Tyson.
3. Rutten - Keeps yet another gun forward quiet. But he's still so much worse than Glass
2. van Berlo - Building real consistancy. Brilliant with the contested ball, and well done on finally cracking the 20.
1. Stevens - Our only effective forward today. 3 goals 2 out of 8 goals 9 deserves a vote. Did some nice things in defence too.

BTM
3. SHIRLEY! WHAT A SPOIL!
2. Hudson - held his own against Lurch. Great at ground level, as usual.
1. Mattner - started the game poorly, but saved us a couple of goals against through sheer desperation.

ROTY
1. Griffen - Good signs. Took some grabs in defence, and set up some goals in attack. That tap down Thompsons throat was Clarke-esque.
1. Douglas - not his best game, but contributed well and did some nice things, including forcing a stoppage against 3 opponents.

I'd argue that it probably was his best game for the club.

I'd argue that it probably was his best game for the club.

I didn't think his disposal was as clean as it has been in the past. Perhaps it stood out on occassion because of the conditions, how tight the game was, and how every little turnover felt like it could be a nail in the coffin.
But yes, I wouldn't have given him a vote if I didn't think he played a good game, but his effort against the Doggies was superior in my eyes.

POTY
5. Thompson - was tough, won clearances in the midfield, best player in the midfield
4. Mattner - won every contest except one off the top of my head, was couragous as always and that raking left foot didn't make any mistakes today. Best game for Adelaide and hope to see plenty more of it in the future.
3. van Berlo - won contested footy, career high possession count, easily another best game for the club
2. Stevens - only he and Perrie looked dangerous up forward for us today, kicked 3
1. Rutten - great game on Pavlich, no goals. Was stiff not to be higher

BTM
3. van Berlo - played for the team and gave his all
2. Mattner - saved a couple of late goals that would have put the game beyond our reach. Yet again played on a tall opponent in Solomon and toweled him up
1. Rutten - great work for the team restricted Pavlich as much as he did

ROTY
2. Knights
1. Griffen

POTY

5. Thompson- Has been building up to this game over the last 2 weeks. Had to step up when Reilly went off in the first 2 minutes with an ankle injury and did it in style. Great game.

4. Edwards- like Thommo had to step up to the plate early when Reilly went down. Possibly his best game for the year.

3. van Berlo- Played above his years in his best game in Crows colours. Played more attackingly today and will end up becoming a premier mid-fielder IMO. Used the ball well.

2. Rutten- Pantsed the best forward in the comp today and as others have pointed out is in his very best AA form.

1. Mattner- Attacked the ball from defence in fine style and gave great rebound all day. Hard at it.

Best Team Man

3. Hudson- Epitomises what the word team man means. Just gives his all every week.

2. Mattner- as above

1. Bassett- Saved us on the last line of defence time after time. Another who is in AA form.

Rookie:

2. Griffin- This kid really has got it. Getting better every time he goes around. Held his own against Sandilands - no mean feat for any ruckman.

1. Douglas- Great come back from the little fella after first being omitted and then back in at the last minute. Read the play well and used it well on most occasions.

Really? I thought the opposite. Other than that muffed handball at half-back in the 3rd term I don't remember him making any other clangers.

Edit: Can we clear something up here?

Does Chris Knights qualify for ROTY?

I asked the same question last week with no reply.

It does need to be resolved IMO.

He's polling enough in the POTY anyway. C'mon Chris, don't hog all the attention.

Whilst we lost, we certainly didn't lack effort in this category, with players such as Rutten, Edwards, Griffin, Mattner, Bassett all unlucky to miss.

Southerntakeover, there must be a few rocks in your head if you think there is no one else worthy for ROTY besides Griffin. Does the surname of Douglas ring a bell at all?
