3. Nahas - been critical of him but he deserves praise.. easily his best game in the yellow and black
2. Martin - we were poor early yet again but this bloke dominated to keep it close
1. Foley - had I think 1 billion touches? Great to see him improving

Push Up, Miller, Jack, Grimes and Rance should also be happy with their games.

Pace - while I agree Martin was poor defensively I think when you are as good as he is with the ball going forward it is up to the rest of the mids to cover for him the other way as you see team mates of Judd and Ablett(@Geelong) do.

Cotchin was tagged, so that leaves Foley predominately as the other mid , he , Dusty, was predominately opposed to Black as a midfielder who I thought within the midfield had the better of him !

Super hard to pick this game.

3. Foley
2. Martin
1. King

Hon mentions to Jack, White, Nahas and Grimes

I was thinking more of the wings and other rotating blokes like Houli, Edwards, Grigg and whoever else was in the middle. When the Lions came back it was often guys pushing into their 50 wide, while I have no problem with people like Houli pushing forward they need to bust a gut running back. Not saying Martin was blameless but thought the midfield overall was poor at pushing back and while there is great signs in our young backs you can't be putting them under the added pressure of having 2-3 opposition mids well ahead of their opponents, especially when we are turnover prone.

Grimes got to position well, the fact he punched instead of marking is an experience things. The main thing is that he was always there first.

Houli to Power was a good move. Power was giving Batchelor a football lesson.

Deledio to Black was another good move. I just wish Deledio was played in the middle a lot more.

Mentions: Rance Miller White

Thought I'd give it to blokes who don't normally get the praise but the simple fact is if these guys stand up more often then we become a better side.

I'll go with my customary 5 votes.

5 - Nahas - I'm a knocker on the kid because he rushes things and gets ahead of himself, but he was miraculous for all those reasons tonight. Exuberance and verve, harassed, tackled and he FINISHED his work with goals. More of that Robin.

4 - Foley - How exciting was it seeing him gathering the ball at will? Kicking penetration will come back and he'll be more adventurous with the ball, but he took the game on, and kept them from running over the top of us.

3 - King - Adcock got his hands on a lot of football, but they run every attack through the guy. King was amazing in the second half. He harassed, and chased and tackled, and stood up, both in the air, and on the ground. Kicked truly too. He's why I love Richmond.

2 - Martin - Love watching him kick it long. Played a great offensive game tonight.

1 - Rance - Thought he was sensational on Leunberger. Really nice combination of bodying his man, and using his closing speed to get a fist onto the ball. Still a bit shaky with the ball in hand, but he takes the game on and goes hard. The disposal and his decisions were improved, too.

Honorables:

Miller - I'll hand it to him - he makes us look better. He has strong hands, runs hard to present an option, and doesn't drop his bundle when the ball is on the ground. I'm all for playing Post in front of him if he warrants a game, but having him in just helps our structure so much.

Reiwoldt - Merrett's quick and strong, but Jack still kicked five, and gave a couple away to team-mates. Are we expecting too much when 5 goals doesn't warrant a vote? I think so, but he wasn't dominant tonight.

Grimes - Still gives me the shakes with the ball in hand, but he's getting much better defensively. Kept his man quiet, and dropped off to chop off countless attacks. Great signs.
