8- Clarke
7- Shaw
7- Swan
6- Davis
5- Lockyer
23 touches, and 3 huge tackles that stopped three certain goals?

Even players like Maxwell, Cloke, Cox, Goldsack and O'Bree deserved at least five votes.

8 - Swan
8 - H.Shaw
7 - Clarke
7 - Lockyer
6 - Maxwell

Davis very unlucky. However thought he was one of the chief offenders when it came to butchering the ball.
Cox unlucky too.

Pretty good all round performance. Not many bad performances. Just bad goalkicking and kicking into the forward line.

A few comments from a Hawks perspective:

Pendlebury didn't produce quite to the level I expected from previous outings, or maybe he just had a down game. Saw he got votes, so perhaps I've over-rated him somewhat.

Thomas impressed me with his chasing and harrassing. Sure he didn't catch (m)any but he put pressure on where many didn't even bother.

Swan seemed to be a constant on the rebound, does he look much bigger than he plays? Almost looked 3rd Tall height, and definite 'strong' build.

Clarke - given a big task to run with Crawford, and then for a 'break' goes to Bateman or McGlynn, three of the hardest runners in the game. Did some very good things, and looks a complete natural. Can't believe he's only 12 months into football. Very, VERY impressive.

Davis impressed me with his speed and crumbing, but more importantly his willingness to do team things. A lot of time he was passing off to others in better positions, where my memory of him was more a 'tunnel-vision' player.

Maxwell goes allright, but was suprised he wasn't pinned for hands-in-the-back. He's obviously watched Clement (the master at it IMO). Keeps 'em low, and just unbalances them prior to opponent jumping for the ball. I was watching with a hawks supporters group (about 30 or so), and we actually clapped him off after the knock, when he shook off the trainers and ran off. Hope he pulls up ok.

Goldsack is quick. I know Franklin is playing under duress for the first time in his career (lower back, can't sprint or pick up on the run), but no-one tall enough can keep up with him usually. A good prospect, especially as he seemed to read the incoming high ball well too.

Lockyer/H.Shaw I must say I didn't notice doing a heck of a lot except being 'outlet' options from defence, but on the replay they both made some valuable tackles.

O'Bree/Burns/Licuria - O'Bree is still your best ball-winner in the middle, but butchers close to 50% of his disposals. One thing the commentators never seemed to pick up on (especially early) is that while you were leading centre clearances 15-7 at one stage, only 6 were effective (and 5 of ours were). Suprised Burns and Licuria weren't played alongside him more in the middle. With Burns, Fraser and O'Bree you have an ok group ball-winners, and there's plenty of class outside run around them.

Didak - meh. I never liked him anyway, so the (alleged) events of the last few days did nothing to change my perspective. The fact Hawthorn haven't had a good 'cheat' goal-kicker for the last 10 years might help sway my thoughts too.

Cloke - Quick (for a big bloke), good hands, knows when and where to lead. Typical left-footer when shooting for goal. With Rocca out, I presume he normally plays further up the field (last time I saw him he was mainly playing up to the wing)?

Reid - Impressive burst pace, made Gilham look slow (well actually he is, but generally smart enough to counter). Once Gilham adjusted, he disappeared, and by the end Gilham was running up and down the wing on him, virtually unopposed.

Given both sides outs (Rocca, Clement, Presti, Buckley, Heritier, ??) and us missing (Williams, Dixon, Vanders, Clarke, Bailey, Jacobs) and Boyle in the game, it gave a very interesting look into the teams respective depth. Like I said in another post somewhere, you guys came up against a younger, less experienced side who have adjusted their style so they no longer rely on experienced players to win them games.

Just an outsider's point of view.

He didn't play well IMO. He made errors he usually wouldn't make, didn't use it as constructively as usual. Just didn't seem in it as much as usual. He didn't have a bad game, but probably his worst for the year.
