Garner, Higgins and Wood badly missed.

Yes but it was the speed from the stoppages and off half back. And not winning the center clearances is where it all fell down.
Don’t know if these 3 would’ve curbed it.
Simpkin and TT last quarter was immense. They were both running so hard to try and chase down opponents and impact. And then their attacking plays setting up BBB. Huge last quarter for the babes.

And the umpires.... f*ark

The only other player who has achieved that in the top 100 (2019) of this category is, Dustin Martin.

I can't find anyone who has bettered it, and two of them were manufactured out of nothing.

Pre-game I was hoping Rat would be another to improve in a post-Brad opportunity. Imo he played one of his best games for the club.

We saw some positives that were REALLY positive. He's got some areas to work on but I reckon with the right set up there's a place for him in the best 22.

Yeah Hrovat was a real liability directly setting up 4 goals. No place for that in our side.

The question is whether his replacement would also have 4 assists but add something extra. Hrovat got in some good positions but was beaten a fair bit

He was good, and against probably the worst side for him to match up on.

We were held together by Brown , taz and the Zurhar all game and yet we nearly pinched it. North are a team that requires us at least half of the boys to be up to win. Today I would say at best we had 6 or 7 on song

ONE player has matched what rat did tonight for the entire season.

ONE!

Get every player who has played this year, ad them up, multiply them by the times they have played and then divide it by 2.

We're talking at least ~250-1 odds!!!

This team needs to be drilled into a system that (barring atrocious skill error) can guarantee ball retention when required.

Costs us many games.

It’s something I want to see in 2020.
I was screaming out for players to spread at the end. They all looked spent. I assume that is why we continually went down the line.

They'd be diving off the west gate bridge if the siren goes 90 seconds earlier.

If, as it seems, Daniher's career is in serious trouble, they are going to really struggle going forward to get beyond being a 12-8 side.

4 goals assists

Are you seriously defending his position in the team with this paltry stat?
He will be delisted at the end of the year and no other club will pick him up.
He is obviously not AFL standard.

Must be a nice bloke around the club

Paul Ahern looked so promising last year. I’m bemused as to why he has regressed so much. He seems to give us nothing whenever he plays in the A’s.

Obviously that was an immensely deflating finish, but realistically we were completely outplayed for the middle two quarters and lucky to be in it at the final break. From there, we put in a full quarter of the exact kind of hard graft that will see us win more matches than not, closing their options down and dominating play - they just pulled out a freak goal to pinch it at the end. It's absolutely gutting, but we can't expect to win if we make it as easy as we did for them to move the ball around like we did for half the game. And the umpiring does warrant a mention, not because it was biased but because it was plainly inconsistent, blatant frees were frequently missed (trips, throws, clear holding the balls), and the overall impact of that inconsistency was in their favour...

From a coaching side of things...? Clearly I'm no expert, but it looked like we were a bit shapeless in the third quarter, kicking to our forwards' disadvantage or picking out the wrong options often - not sure why, maybe we tried to change something up and it just didn't work out? Much better in the last, even if Atley's late turnover was a seriously bad judgement. Not sure we did enough before then to fix up our leaky centre clearance work, we're still far too one-note there and it still seems like all our opponents get easy clearances far more often than we do. In general, it just seemed like they were ready for us and worked to constrain us a bit, whereas we allowed them to get a fair chunk of the game on their terms. If Shaw gets the credit for our turnaround, our rediscovered hard ethos, and the defensive grind that got us back in front in the last term, then those issues are on him too. Still, nothing today stops him being a solid candidate for senior coach next year - just a few areas that need improvement, because no doubt, with the value of playing the way we have been, other coaches will work on shutting us in much the same ways as today.

As for this board and its whipping boys, it seems people saw what they wanted to see. McMillan was ordinary, had a shaky start then put in some good efforts, only to badly misplay the contest with Laverde late in the last term, whilst Hrovat was above average, very dynamic early and put the pressure on their players plenty after that - neither were super today, but the incessant criticism of those two is unfair when there were quite a few others who were worse or not much better today. I'd actually like to see Hrovat stay in for a week or two, to get a proper look at what he can still offer (and not just as a late inclusion)... although he might be the one who goes out to get Higgins back in.
Innthe firat 3 quarters we rushed our forward entries too often trying to force the low percentage option which caused turn overs. Needed a little more patience to hold it up, especially when BBB was on fire.

Going down the line wasn't necessarily a bad idea. Our inability to take a contested mark, win the ball at ground or lock it in what sucked. :stern look

I don't have to comment any further than quoting that, and leaving it there for display.

Yeah, but with 90 seconds to go we were in front...............and it took a 1 out of 100 shot to beat us.
Agreed. But in all honesty we put in a pretty ordinary performance.

Don't get me wrong, if we won I'd be be dancing, but we didn't. There were too many non contributors. Not much we can do about it as we are down to the bare bones depth wise.

I certainly never thought we would be blowing them away.

Their strength is our weakness.

Stop Cunnington and utilise pace?

Jed & Jy's first half and Ahern whole match, is the reason we lost in the middle.

They break even there and we win by at least 8 goals.
Jy and Ahern (and LDU) are going to dish up inconsistent performances in the midfield due to their experience. Consistency will come, Jy is making big in roads though, loved his last quarter.

Unfortunately, Jy was, probably, due a flat game.

He was a big part though of us getting back in and nearly pinching it in the last.

Just that last Tippa goal, Jy got sucked to the ball, which left Tippa free. Game over
