In many ways, the game was reminiscent of the GWS game. Our midfield got murdered, due to the opposition’s ability to quell Cunnington. Ben has some work to do to master the art of shaking a tag. I expect he’ll succeed. This year is the first year he has had to contend with it.

Regardless of today’s outcome I don’t think either side would have made finals this year anyway. My perspective is that essendons list is fine but the coaching team aren’t gettting the best out of it.

Today was up there with some of the terrible performances earlier in the year, yet we nearly pinched it.

I think a few tweaks at selection and we will see a good response.

Shaw does seem to have a good knack of turning the tide in a game. In past years that would of drifted along and resulted in a 5 goal plus hiding.

Only thing that can prevent a massive list problem is falling arse backwards into some father/sons or Tarryn style NGA thefts.

Otherwise a very big hole is opening up in the next two years.

There's 3-4 solid players there and that's it! The rest wouldn't get a contract anywhere else. Then they're going to have to replace Bellchambers, Hurley and Hooker in the next couple of years and they have NO decent KPD types coming through. Not a one.

Are they going to have 12 draft picks this year?

But, being honest, from the first 15 mins til 3/4 time we were outplayed, dominated in the centre and, barring inaccuracy, should have been out of the game.

Last quarter we managed to pull it back our way, but got beaten by one quality moment.

If we were a better more consistent team we would have been further ahead and unable to be caught.

But today, we were an inch, a millisecond off. Brown played a blinder. If he didn’t, we would have lost by 25 odd.

Hated it. But probably necessary loss. Learn that inferior opponents need to be beaten, asserted against.

There were a lot of moments like this.

Moments where a modicum of composure would have at least guaranteed a 50/50 chance of a goal.

Zurhaar’s match review will contain at least three moments were he messed the ‘Pagan’s paddock’ play up.

It’s why I actually don’t worry too much about this loss.

We’re a good team. We need composure, experience and a bit more reliability in the middle. But we are a quality team. When we were on, we were dominant.

Mosquito fleet footy didn't help his game, and he provided pretty good seperation for Brown.

Love how ppl think durdin and LDU being omitted cost us. We got absolutely smashed in the middle and were slow.

LDU wouldn't have kept up and their small forwards killed us, not their talls.

Sorry but respectfully disagree. We lost by less than a goal. IMHO Durdin and LDU would have contributed more than McMillan and Taylor.

The Taylor for LDU change clearly didn’t work out. But, Curtis will benefit from the run, I’m sure. Obviously, Hrovat did his bit but Wood going out was a big blow. Larkey’s heart issues certainly didn’t help too. There were a few 12 point turnarounds against us. The most galling was BBB running into an open goal and missing. They went straight down and goaled from the kick-in.

The best thing about this side now is that it isn’t reliant on veterans.

The fact that we are bemoaning average performances from Larkey and Simpkin is a good thing.

We just need to find a couple of good young defenders and we will have good young prospects all over the field.

Some of these kids are infants in AFL terms and have shown they can play at the level.

Look at Gold Coast, now that’s a shitshow.
