Such an important election here. If it goes the lefts way it will make it very very hard for Abbott to get much through the Senate. He will be able to get the mining tax gone (almost definitely) but maybe not the Carbon tax.

WA is notoriously conservative, so Libs will probably get 3 seats, ALP 2 and a minor party 1.

That isn't going to happen. Last election there was already 4 conservatives (3 Lib, 1 PUP) and 2 left-wing (both ALP). It'll swing back to 3-3, but it would take an extraordinary swing against the conservatives for the left to pick up another seat.

You are correct in stating that it would have huge ramifications if it did happen. In any case, these senators have six-year terms so the result on Saturday could be crucial come the 2016 election.

There are three feasible results:

Most Likely:
3 LIB, 2 ALP, 1 GRN

Unlikely:
3 LIB, 2 ALP, 1 PUP
2 LIB, 2 ALP, 1 PUP, 1 GRN

In all cases, the Coalition won't be able to get to a majority without the support of Labor, the Greens or Palmer.


I agree that the mining tax will be scrapped, but Clive won't let it happen without bargaining with the Coalition.

That is what I was saying. Last election was 4 from the right and 2 from the left. If it turns out to be 3 for the right and 3 for the left that is a massive win for Labor as it makes it extremely difficult for Abbott in the Senate.
