It was to stop east perth from dominating and winning a run of premierships. This alignment is very different then the last.In 2000 and 2001 when east perth had only the eastern states recruits which meant they only had around 4-6 and sometimes only 2.They were allowed to recruit for needs and usually had 16-18 spots for very local players.I always suspected that the longer the alignment went and guys retired and less spots for local players that the performance would suffer. No offence but some Eagles are only getting a game because they are on a Afl list and some youngsters are coming from under age competitions and straight into a wafl league side skipping playing reserves.I don't think it sends a good message to non eagles players but also doesn't teach new Eagles that they have to earn their spot even at wafl league level. From the outside this doesn't sound like professional football!
