Only a few rounds to go and Subi's resurgence, plus the Bulldogs win over the Falcons has made it an interesting last few rounds.

It would also be remiss not to congratulate Gavin Statham on 300 games as an umpire, a great effort in anyone's book. :thumbsu:

Bulldogs v Peel

Last time they met the Bulldogs only won by eight points, so this could be closer than anticipated. However, with the Bulldogs tails up after a good win at Joondalup, you expect they might have the Thunder's measure.

The Bulldogs have good running power, which has been their strength this year. They also have their big men running into some form in the past 4-6 weeks, which is the area that Peel may struggle to match them. Wilson and Murphy is a strong forward pairing who provide very good flexibility. Hams will be a pretty big out, because his last month of form has been very good. Woods gives them some nippiness around the packs.

The Thunder have regained Lycett, which is a good inclusion for them, whilst McKenna brings some pace and Beswick brings some grunt. Faulks out, will be missed, as will Crichton's pace around the back half and midfield. The Thornton's will need to provide a fair bit of ball for the Thunder forwards and other mids, along with Jones's, Beswick, Healey, Triplett, Gillam.
Bulldogs should win comfortably.

Lions v Royals

The Lions have undergone a mid season resurgence, as have the Royals, to a lesser degree, so this should be an interesting battle of the co-tenants.

The Lions accounted for the Dees in a close one, but they are starting to get some younger kids coming throughwith a degree of promise. Waters will probably be drafted, along with Horsley, then there is Kerr, Blechynden, Wheeler and Phelan. On top of this Randall and Broadhurst are playing terrific football and Rix is winning the ruck. Broady should be just the foil Anthony needs to hit form, but he hasn't used him properly yet, IMO.

The Royals have decided that they need to play the youth and that seems to actually be making them more competitive. Higgins is such an old style, combative ruckman who is deceptively mobile around the ground. I love his competitive spirit and ungainly style. :thumbsu: Then Brookes, Maldenis, Kommer look likely types. Blee will probably get drafted, I reckon and Smith has had such a good year they may not have his services next year either.
A bit of talent between these two teams, but I expect the Lions to win.

Sharks v Falcons (Gero)

This should be a ripping match, ABC telecast, because the Sharks are playing for their top 4 chances and the Falcons have top spot on the line.

The Sharks lose Dalziell and Sheppard (possibly not) which will dent their strength. Stevens, Dalziell, Houlihan, O'Brien's have been in pretty good form for the Sharks but they probably need more contributors. Up forward I still see a weakness, although Warren, Young and Dodd can all play up there. There is no shortage of runners, with McGough leading the way, they will need to be on top of their game to challenge the Falcons. They are still producing a heap of talented footballers at Moss Street, with Boyle, Tropiano, Henson and others looking likely types.

The Falcons have suffered a couple of losses lately, which should just give them some drive back, leading into finals. LeCras has been outstanding at CHB and with Fleay and Browne they have led a miserly defence. Throough the middle Salecic leads a pretty tough mosquite fleet, with Bartholomew, Rice, Guadagnin, Bewick, van Berlo all hard to match up on and beat. Zanetti, Tregear and Strijk have been very good up forward, with Mellington (if he's in) and less reliance on Slik than in previous years.
I can see the Falcons getting away with a comfortable win, but the skills won't be pretty in the windy city.

Tigers v Swans

We should see the Tigers take top spot back today, with a massacre which I will unfortunately witness. The only thing making it bearable are the Bilby's Burgers which I will partake in just down the road from Claremont Oval. :p

The Tigers don't have C Jones in great form so that will be one thing they'd like to have sorted come finals. Their running players are very, very good and the defence is also very good. Broome started the season on fire so they would like him back in form. Schammer is a key, with Blackwell, Brabazon and Foster and Swift remains a bonus playing at this level. I don't see how Swans can counter all of these. Isn't footy a funny game because a year ago Thomson was a key player, playing his best football, before the injurey and now the best he gets is named on the interchange bench. Anyway, I digress, because I can't see how Swans can counter all those running players.

Swans have Roberts back, which is rather bitter sweet because he'll go down as only the second (?) captain to see their club go from top to bottom. :( Actually, I see Faulkner in the guts and am quite excited, love the kid, to see him get a go.
Let's hope Swans can be competitive but I expect a 100 point shellacking. :(

I'll be at the game today as well Swannies and I doubt it'll be the shellacking you described.
I sit down the front and roughly center of the members area. I'll be with a clutch of people who are fairly vocal for Claremont supporters.

Good win from Claremont.

Swans came out hard in the opening quarter, but Claremonts class was evident as they cruzed to a 54 point win in front of 1812 people.

Handily, Blackwell and Wilkes were Claremonts best,Brett Jones' run out of the back line was sorely missed.

Jess Laurie had a dirty day, being knocked out in the Second quarter only to return and find himself being stretchered off in the last quarter after falling awkwardly. Clancy Ruderforth is Claremonts only other injury concern, copping a knock to that jaw in another behind the play incident against Swan Districts.

Beau Wilkes was again reported for striking, and I thought the umpiring display was actually quite good.

All in all, a fairly good day for Claremont, who I thought really did cruze home with out too much of an effort in the second half.

Well,
Eaglesflyinghigh has stolen MY thunder this time.

Yeah Claremont did very well today though the Swans did come out fighting.
There's a lot to like about Swans despite their poor season. They cover the ground fast and when they hit the targets they are very good. I don't know what the ins and outs are over there at Bassendean but maybe with a good pre-season and a settled squad and a few good acquisitions it'll be a different story next year. They have plenty of talent to put out on the park. I'll leave it up to Swans fans to coment on the coaching/footy dept.

Claremont are a classy unit and have a very good chance to come away with a flag this year, but there are still a lot of things that irk me. We often let clubs counter attack with very little resistance/defensive pressure shown. We often fail to hit our own targets when under pressure, sometimes when not under pressure and lair-ising.
The team starts slowly sometimes and other times goes to sleep.

These are all things that I believe a good team can't do and expect to win games.
Having said all that it was a good win and I had a great time once again at Claremont oval.

Props to Luke Adams by the way. It was great to see him down at Claremont supporting his team mates.

Good? If that is your definition of good then umpiring stocks are at an all time low.:thumbsdown: It was almost as bad as Swans' display in the second half. Claremont got 5-7 soft, soft, soft free kicks in the F50 that were pathetic, to say the least. The only part of the umpiring that was good was when the blonde umpire stopped play for Laurie to get stretchered off and made Laurie stay on the ground, who was trying to get up.

And I didn't go to Bilby's to brighten my day, so that made it a dirty, dirty day. And oh joy of joys, I get to watch Sowfs and the Munchers towel us up in the next 2 matches. :(

What I should add though, it's exactly as Harding said at 3/4 time. Claremont are a very good side who will hurt you with their skills when you butcher the ball as badly as our players. Congrats to Claremont and it makes the finals a fairly open race with Sowfs, Subi and Easts all performing well.

I thought it was solid compared to what we have seen this year, although I might be seeing it through my yellow and blue eye...

And who is that Swans supporter with the ridiculously large, all most unwavable flag?

Did you get the kids along Swannies ? :D;)

The Swans supporter with the oversized flag is Daniel, I think is his name. Really passionate guy and does NOT miss a game, not ever.

Yes, got the kids along and had to put the knee brace on and play on the oval after the game until about 6. Blew a few cobwebs out, as well as my knee again, almost! :p I won that match though! :D

I never go on the field anymore. Was wearing some denim shorts that were relatively old, had shot from 50 which I kicked but ended up ripping my shorts. lucky I had a jacket with me so I could wear it around my waist although I looked like a complete tool. Still get shit til this day.

Haha, at least you won something;)

Shame you didn't get to bilby's, awesome place!

I nearly brought along a wooden spoon to the game, but then remembered what happened to Luke Adams when he got hit, and thought better of it.

And whilst on Luke Adams, great to see him at the game today, and was pleasing to see the massive ovation from the Tigers faithful.

Ha Ha, sounds like the time, many years ago, when I locked my eyes on to the footy at Kings Park and went splashing into one of the ponds up there to take a mark and came out covered in duck pooh! :D

I can always have a good yarn to the Tigers faithfull, but their support was A grade. :):thumbsu:

This did not go un-noticed in camp Pablo. My son and I and a couple of mates were all looking at eachother saying wtf was that for?
Bullshit frees as my one eyed Claremont supporting son called them. As he frequently says, he'd rather see the game flow.

Swans did cop a few frees in the third that resulted in goals though so.....

I also had a run or two with my boy on the field, trying to stretch out my sore legs from footy training last wednesday night.
