Hi guys, this week's round of the WAFL has been postponed due to the COVID-19 lockdown over the long weekend. At this stage, the plan is for the affected matches to be played in Rounds 10 and 11 and/or Rounds 15 and 16 when teams undergo their byes for the year. It's likely there will be some rescheduling to take place within these rounds as the WAFL is committed to playing a full round-robin season.

As a result of this, there will be no tipping for Round Four with the postponement of all matches. Thanks to everyone who tipped for the coming round and I will be monitoring the situation over the next few days in readiness for Round Five the following weekend. Hopefully we will see matches played next weekend but that will remain dependent on the situation over the weekend and early next week.

Stay tuned for further updates over the next few days and hopefully we'll be tipping for matches next weekend!

Hi all, the three day lockdown in the Perth and Peel regions has finished and the WAFC has announced that Round Five of the WAFL and Round 10 of the WAFLW will go ahead as scheduled with additional COVID-19 measures in place. A decision on crowds has not been made as yet although more news will be expected on that in the next few days.

As such and pending no further changes, the BigFooty WAFL Tipping Competition will recommence this week with the resumption of games for Round Five. Round Four will be treated as a general bye with the competition committed to playing a full round-robin season. It appears likely that the games scheduled for Round Four will be played in the bye rounds 10 and 11 and/or 15 and 16 with some rescheduling to take place over those rounds to accommodate the extra games. It's also possible that the matches could be played in the weekend of the state game which is now in some doubt although no further news on that has been announced as yet.

Round Five Fixtures

East Perth vs Swan Districts at Leederville Oval (Saturday, 2:10pm)
East Fremantle vs Perth at New Choice Homes Park (Saturday, 2:10pm)
Claremont vs West Perth at Revo Fitness Stadium (Saturday, 2:10pm)
South Fremantle vs Subiaco at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (Saturday, 2:10pm)
Peel Thunder vs West Coast Eagles at David Grays Arena (Sunday 11:10am, margin)

Round Five is split across Saturday and Sunday with a full allotment of five games this week. The first game of Round Five sees East Perth taking on Swan Districts at Leederville Oval. East Perth didn't start well against East Fremantle in their last game but added some respectability in the final quarter in their 25 point loss. At 0-3, the Royals need to start winning to get their season back on track with this match against Swans representing a chance to do so. Swan Districts have started 2021 quite well at 2-1 and managed to score a good win over West Coast Eagles in their last start. Travelling to Leederville Oval to take on East Perth won't be easy but Swans will be confident they can do their job thanks to their early season form and try and boost themselves to a 3-1 start.

East Fremantle are back at home in Round Five with Perth travelling to New Choice Homes Park to face the Sharks. East Fremantle performed strongly against East Perth in their most recent game before easing to a slightly better than four goal win over the Royals to give them a 2-1 start to the season and third place on the ladder heading into Round Five. Meanwhile, the Sharks face a Perth side desperate for a win having lost their two most recent matches, including their last match against Claremont. After making finals last year for the first time in 23 years, big things were expected of the Demons this year and a loss in this game will make things more difficult heading into the month of May. Expect a fierce game here with both sides out to prove their credentials in this one.

Next up has Claremont battling West Perth at Revo Fitness Stadium in one of the matches of the round. Claremont are undefeated after three matches having defeated Perth in their most recent fixture. The Tigers got off to a quick start against the Demons and held them at bay for the remainder of the game to register their third victory of the season and maintain their top two spot. The face a West Perth side who could also have been 3-0 had it not been for some tight losses to South Fremantle and Subiaco. West Perth's last match was a topsy turvy encounter against Subiaco, leading by 29 points early in the second quarter only to trail by 16 points early in the last term before leading by eight points with only a few minutes remaining. In the end, West Perth lost by three points to the Lions and will be desperate to avoid going 1-3 from their opening four matches. Both of these sides have played some great games over the past few seasons and I expect this one to be much the same on Saturday afternoon in what is shaping up to be a big match.

South Fremantle hosts Subiaco in the final game on Saturday afternoon with the reigning premiers back at home to take on the Lions. Souths got the job done in their last match, getting off to a bright start against Peel Thunder down in Pingelly and then doing enough in the second half to come away with the chocolates in Round Three. The Bulldogs host a Subiaco outfit who come into this game off a tight three point win over West Perth having overcome another slow start and a late run of goals by the Falcons in a pulsating last quarter before manufacturing a comeback of their own to win the best game of the season thus far. Both clubs have played some great matches over the last decade or more and with ether club in good form, expect this one to be another classic contest between the two sides.

The TV game this week and therefore the margin game for Round Five is the match between Peel Thunder and West Coast Eagles at David Grays Arena in Mandurah on Sunday. Peel Thunder have just one win to start season 2021 but that was a thumping 105 point win over East Perth in Round Two before falling to South Fremantle in their last start in Pingelly. West Coast Eagles haven't had the start they would have liked to season 2021 at 0-3 and need to start winning some games to get their season up and running. With several AFL listed players set to return to their AFL side this week, this should see their reserves bolstered somewhat heading into an important game for them this week. Bouncedown for this game is scheduled for 11:10am with Channel Seven's coverage starting at 11am. The AFL derby will begin not long after the conclusion of this game at 2:40pm with coverage from 2:30pm.

It's easy peasy in the Colts and Reserves this week. All Reserves' matches will start at 11:40am with all Colts' games to start at 9:10am.

The weather isn't looking too bad this week but will be cooler than previous weeks. Saturday looks set to be partly cloudy with a maximum of 20 degrees expected while Sunday will also be partly cloudy with a maximum of 21 degrees. There is also a slight chance of a shower on both days but any rain that does fall won't be significant.

Well, after a weekend of lockdown it's good to have the footy back this weekend. Hopefully things will progress well this week and we can have the WAFL up and running again on the weekend and hopefully some crowds at the games too. Happy tipping!!
