Ghost bat, if you’re happy to have Barnett on our list over Banfield, good for you.
I’ll be happy to keep tabs on how their respective AFL careers play out, I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

You can’t delist Barnett during the draft. We rated banfield for rookie. Unless banfield was rated over Rodriguez, delisting Barnett wouldn’t have netted banfield.

I mean follow the logic mate. There is no evidence either banfield was rated over Evans. So even if Barnett was delisted and Rodriquez taken, that still wouldn’t have netted banfield.

So making “who would you rather have” comparison is very primary school childish, I get that from my primary school child daily. Your analysis lacks depth.

Now if in your eyes banfield was rated higher, that’s different story. But has nothing to do with Barnett.

Where the hell did I suggest to delist Barnett during the draft, why was he given a contract extension in the 1st place?

On the one hand, the expectation was that a few of Dev, Schoenberg, Macrae, Kelly, Gross, Hall and Murdoch would be playing for the Beagles in a lot of weeks, and very few of them were actually available to the Beagles due to injury or playing for the senior side.

But on the other hand, we had almost the same number of AFL-listed players as Peel and still got smashed. It's pre-season, but if that trend continues then I think it would be a pretty glaring sign that the bottom part of our list is a lot further from AFL standard than the bottom of Freo's list. Either that or they somehow have much better ammos than we do.

There isn't a recruiter in the land that would have had Frod ahead of Banfield.

Either way both Evans and Banfield are both injured atm.

Know this sounds a bit "my mate's second cousin's sister has heard this" so understand if it's taken with more of a grain of salt but at least for me have felt a bit more comfortable with that whole thing after this:

My friend who works in recruiting for a Vic team just reckoned WC didn't rate Banfield above Hamish Davis, and that that was the comparison they were making during the draft, not FRod vs Banfield. So we decided not to do any list backflips to get him on board. And were happy to take FRod as a balanced posession mid given we saw bigger question marks around Hall and Gross for that spot than we did for Davis/Allen/Dewar on the wing, and that he made it to the rookie draft.

I'd much rather Banfield over Barnett on our list this year for sure, but given we'll likely delist Barnett but Banfield picked in the ND would get 2 years, it then becomes whether we valued Banfield over the list spot at the end of this year.

Basically have put it to bed in my own head with the thought that we just didn't rate Banfield that highly. If he becomes a superstar that's on us, sure, but am not stressing about it at this stage.

kind of makes sense. that deep in draft you draft for need and not necessarily best available. Tylah Williams is a need. Banfield, if he is seen similar to Davis on that wing, is not an additional need.

interesting about hall, gross and FRod.

PS. your mate's second cousin's sister is still your mate's second cousin....

WAFL team all of a sudden looking thin for options once again . Round 1 vs Perth this week so hoping it's a easier game than the Peel one

Thinking we go with

FB: Grego, Jamieson, Johnston
HB: Cole, Bazzo, Datson
C: Dewar, Macrae, Maric
HF: T.Williams, J.Williams, Gross
FF: Burke, Barnett , Owies
R: B.Willams , Hall, Watts

Bench - No idea

Gross will likely be back.

Where's that new basketball guy? Surely he's ready to play now.
Needs to play 5 mins a week in the WAFL to build match fitness.

He can build incrementally, or spread each minute throughout quarters.

I wonder if 7 plus will have match replays this year, it sucked last year if you missed the game you were out of luck, especially at 2.10pm on a Friday

The wafls back this weekend… and the subtitles on this seem to have misheard the lyrics

Thanks for posting that.

This is the era I played in, I know and recognise a lot of the faces and players.

Played with and against a few of these guys.

It was a golden era of WA Football.

We played it hard and yet we were still able to share a beer with the opposition after the game.

I think it'll be the same as last year. I'm going to try to record as many as I can.

SANFL are charging $10 a month for a subscription to watch their matches

Perth are a good team and likely better than Peel this season.

Team named for match against Perth on Good Friday - 11 listed players named including Gross on the bench

Notable absentees are B Williams, Champion, Owies, Brock, Cole and Hewett presumably because that group will comprise the 3 required inclusions and the 3 emergencies. Would expect that 2 of those will eventually be released back to the WAFL side, giving us 13 listed players named.
