He'd better show us something quick, or the ferals will tear him a new one.

Mog, it's gonna take 3 years to get this list into some sort of shape. WE CANNOT EXPECT MIRACLES. Danny frawley has decimated our list.

Brittain out the door next.

We are a fickle bunch. I'm not suggesting I'll be lined up if we're 5-14 near the end of next year, but there will be plenty of people with unrealistic expectations. Contributing to that will have been the media hype over the last few weeks, but I hope his ego can stand up to the first pile of manure or animal bodyparts someone dumps at his doorstep.

He deserves unqualified support for his first 2 years.

Unlike Frawley, he's proven he can coach. All Frawley ever proved in football is that he knew how to play in a losing side.

The first appointment since Swooper I've had any real positive thoughts about. And prior to Swooper there was a long time between drinks as well. I'm prepared to be patient, Geelong have had to be, and they'd be foolish to get rid of Thompson the way they're looking at the moment. If we can endure 5 years of Frawley, an untried, unsuccessful appointment, we can surely kick back and wait to see what Plough unravels. More waiting is required, but we can at least be a bit more hopeful of moving in the right direction.

He certainly does deserve unqualified support. I just hope he gets it. Even though I dislike him, I'll certainly be giving him a chance.

i am prepared to be patient. plough will most likely have us quite surprised with the turnaround in skill and endeavor of the players, but even so he wont be getting any criticism from me for at least the first year or two. just let him get on with it. between him and miller the future could be bright.

I thought 4 years would have been about right, but really 1 more year doesn't make much difference, especially when you consider we had Frawley for 5 years and the last 3 of those being absolute shockers. As others have said in the first couple of seasons its unlikely we will be challenging for the finals and more likely developing younger players and building a list.

sorry to be slightly negative here but the last person that Richmond signed to a 5 year contract was Darren Gaspar.

Lets hope the term of the contract is where the similarities end

As a Hawk i've always thought Terry Wallace is very much about Terry Wallace and as such i reckon a 5 year deal by your board in it's current financial state is a HUGE mistake! Just think he'll hold you to ransom financially if things don't work out. 3 years max is how i would have gone as by then you would have known whether a contract extension was warranted or not. $520 000 a year is alot of brass for a coach who is really only in the middle bracket of achievers in terms of current coaches. Especially considering your current financial situation. No sour grapes as he wouldn't have been the bloke for me at Hawthorn but we all want to see the Melbourne clubs survive and to offer a bloke that much money for such an extended period is fraught with danger. Hawthorn have said they didn't make him an offer, how true that is is anyones guess but i'll guarantee you if they did it was nowhere near that length of time. He's under the pump alright as he won't get the patience at a club the size of yours from supporters and members that he was afforded at the 'Doggies!

Well lets hope the more fickle.... and lets be serious there's plenty of them/us, have the patience to give the time he needs to clear the shi-t and develop the list.

But i aggree, he needs 'at least' 2 years to have any impact on the list.

If we gave Wallace a 3 year deal, it would have been extended anyway. I get the feeling Wallace knows how great this club really is, and he wants to achieve success here at all costs. Once he gets this train in motion, and the supporters start jumping on, it will be unstoppable.

All he has to do is build a strong enough engine to cater for the Tiger Army!! :D

hey lads can we get this genius as a consultant to the RFC, perhaps we would be better off adopting the "peanuts for monkeys" a la Bulldogs and drive us to oblivion. An exhaustive search has unearthed wallace as the very best available coach..a 5 year period provides a platform that will avoid short term decsions that proved costly to both Schwab and Frawley.....meanwhile I'd encourage you to promote your equivocal insights into football strategy back to Hawthorn

Wasn't Mark Thompson the last coach awarded a 5 year contract at an AFL club ?

Seems to be a pretty sound investment at a club as traditionally fragile as Geelong. They've even taken the time to actually develop a solid core of youngsters. AND they're on the verge of a double chance in this years finals !!

What else were we to do, seriously ? Hand out another short term deal to some half-arsed wannabe with a two year guillotine poised over his neck ?

5 years fits right, he will be given the time he needs to do it without quick fixes. i think we are all prepared to see it unfold. bring it on terry!

True, we can't expect miracals, however if Crocker , Spargo had been shown the door at the end of last year, Frawley would have been better off.
I still think Wallace is very over rated , but if his ability is as great as his ego we may improve.

I think 5 years is a sensible move by the Tigers. It means that Wallace can concentrate on putting together plans and carry them out into the medium term rather than looking for a quick fix. I don't believe Wallace is the genius that some (particularly the media) seem to be making out, particularly with the clubs all considering him first choice which seems rather bizarre to me, but he is still a good solid coach and Richmond should benefit from his coaching over the next 5 years.

Between Hodge , Holland , Crawford and Barker do you reckon you will be able to pay anyone else next year ?

He didn`t see the light you`ve just given him a Gasper like contract because he had you over a barrel . Well done Greg Miller , eventually he`ll get everyones caps up

Comparing Hodge and Gaspar, ARE YOU SERIOUS! Holland and Barker will hopefully retire but if not they will be gone in 2 years anyway.

And by the way, you keep applauding Greg Miller pushing up others salary caps, maybe one day you may poach a young star from another club ( and no Nathan Brown isn't young!)
