IT'S been an interesting month for the Cats. They were beaten by a kick in the keenly anticipated round-14 clash with St Kilda. Both teams at that stage were undefeated. The physical toll of that encounter crushed the Cats.

The next week they flew to Brisbane, with half of their stars missing, and copped a rare belting. Did they tank that game? There's no doubt the players tried, but it is questionable as to whether the Geelong match committee fielded its strongest-possible side, thus denying the club the best chance to win. Some would say that it was clever list management.

After that, it was an easy home victory against Melbourne. Next came two nail-biting finishes in which the Cats got up by a point over Hawthorn then, after trailing most of the day, by two points over Adelaide at the Cattery.

"Trailing most of the day" ? - FFS we led at every change.

Robbie then goes on to document our horrific run with inures and out of form players (including Ablett) and concludes we must win the flag to maintain our reputation.

I really don't understand how we are 16-2 with such a terrible side.

Against the Brisbane Bears at Carrera Geelong kicked a VFL/AFL record score of 37 goals 17 behinds (239 points). This record score still stands.

still not over it

I think there is a perception in the league that you guys are out of form.
16-2 tells me otherwise.
But compared to the standard that you set in 07&08 the cats dont seem to be at their best. But i think you've had that rough patch at the right time, and now you'll start to get back your rythym and go all the way. After the shock loss tonight :thumbsu:

P.S may we all pray for Tom Lonergan.

Our team has so many weaknesses and deficiencies that I thought Walls was talking about Melbourne for a second. Then I looked at the ladder and realised we were 16-2 and equal premiership favorite. :)

Apparently opposition teams are trying to run Scarlett out from full back? FFS they have been trying that for the last 5 years!! Walls just re-hashes the same old stuff week in week out (how many times do we have to hear about SJ and Mooney having a competition for most goal assists?). He has run out of material and is no longer a progressive thinker of the game. Time for him to give it away.

Walls is a knob and speaks alot of sh it but his last line summed what we all know, we must win another flag or else we r just another one hit wonder team, i have confidence come late in sept we will have another flag but if we don't geez its going to be a long painful summer thats 4sure.

Behind all day? What a clown.

Drop him a line to send him a lower-case t... time to leave.

rwalls@theage.com.au

i e-mail him, Hey wallsy did you know that Steve Johnson and Cam Mooney are having a competition over who can have the most goal assists.......... :p

Recent opponents, Stephen Milne and Brett Burton, have been too quick for the 31-year-old.

I'm pretty sure James Kelly played on Milne and beat him easily.
It's like he guessed or something...

So what if he's a premiership coach, he clearly has no clue.
He was sacked less than a year and half after he won the flag and was sacked from the 3 of the 4 clubs he coached.
So yeah, he doesn't know sh!t...

Boy, just read it....
How bad are we??!!!
Just no point continuing is there? Think I'll switch to the Storm.....

I don't think I'd be breaching any confidentialities by revealing the following - Each week Robert Walls dreams up a story line conclusion (e.g., Cats Finished). He then conjures up "facts" and "evidence' to support that conclusion, no matter how tenuous, far fetched, or untrue.

Compare Mike Sheehan's article about Geelong earlier this week with Walls' article.

He is a tabloid headline man who knows he is no longer relevant and therefore has to be controversial.

Aside from the attacks on Hawkins and Ablett i think it is a pretty fair article to be honest. There is some problems, i think we all know that.

We lapped up the adulation in our amazing run and now we are not at the level and are going to cop some criticism.

What do you want journalists to write about? It is the nature of the profession, you have to find something to write about.

Perhaps he should have referenced the fact we are 16-2 and find a way to keep winning because of our amazing midfield talent, but i think it has been made pretty clear over the last few years that Ablett, Selwood, Bartel, Corey and Ling are amazing. How many times you want to read it?

I found it an interesting article. Clearly the best football writer in Australia.

people you are on the wrong track as to why walls has a problem with geelong, nothing to do with the games 15 years ago were geelong won by well over 100 points, its all to do with bomber thompson.

walls cant stand bomber due to the fact that we as a premiership player and captain under sheedy and because he dosent like bombers personality.

he favours sides who have coaches that he helps choose, he wants the saints to win the flag bad and would love for us to fail.

that article is all about trying to put pressure on geelong and take it away from st kilda
