Certified Legendary Thread Ward is a diving disgrace

One was high contact, the other wasn't. The Townsend one should have been a free kick, intentional or not.
Towner's was high because he led with his head, as he always has. Shaw got to the ball first using the correct technique, hands take the ball as hip and shoulder take the space. Exemplary orthodoxy in a split second moment in a game of more than a few reminders of what he champion he has been. Small back pocket of the last 15 years.

Towner was leaning in, off balance, head first. Self-inflicted wound.

How tough is he though.

I don't mind letting the Townsend one go even if it would have resulted in a goal. Technically a free, but it was accidental. Wasn't clumsy from Shaw either. Not much he could have done about that.
They should have let the Ward one go. That's the frustrating part about umpiring at the moment.
The AFL will have a difficult time trying to explain the Townsend non-free when Ward's one was paid. Inconsistencies and over-umpiring is making it unwatchable.

I agree. I'm fine with that being unpaid. Ward's one shouldn't have been paid either. The AFL will have a tough time trying to explain it when Townsend wasn't paid a free kick for a "technical high".

His reputation as a tough player has gone out the window now

What a *ingg joke full on staged it.

Ward should take some cues from tougher footballers, like Italian soccer strikers or Tom Papley

Because that's the sh*t football club we are. We routinely accept these losses and we never improve.

Our club is a joke and I have never been so out of love with it.

The non officiating umpire over ruled the umpire closest to the play which makes it even more laughable.
That s**t needs to stop.
They need to tell them only blow the whistle if it happens in the section of the ground where you’re officiating.
If an umpire is right their and has a perfect view and you’re way off the ball, put the ******* whistle away

It's hard though because some times the non officiating umpire has a better angle but jeez you should be 100% sure if you're gonna overrule the officiating umpire not guess based on acting.

Blame the umpires mate, they were the silly ones who fell for it...

the umpires may mae the mistake but the player should say "no". If not then it becomes a MRP issue and 4 week minimum bans.

We don't want to become piss weak like soccer (coming from a soccer player)

Looks like he got hit in the head to me. First to get hands on the ball. Then gets elbowed in the head. Pretty clear. Getting hit in the head is usually a free kick.

Typical Giants footy, leading with the head, reaching in with the hands, not putting body over the ball. That's how you get knocked out, kids. Protect yourself at all times. Never put your head where your arse will fit.

Neither of their hands are on the ball, both equidistant. The ball is touching McKernan's foot and he would have got a hand on it if Ward had not dived in to headbutt his thigh.
