All jokes aside, I just hope this Warnock trade (wherever he goes) is completed near the start of the trade week. Like what happened with Aker.

Personally I'd be annoyed if it happened early on in the week. It'd be nice to think the club had tried everything possible to get the best deal for Fremantle.

Yes, the only way it's going to get done early in the week is if Carlton put pick 6 on the table straight away. Otherwise, it's likely to drag out.

Wrong - he has nominated Carlton. He has agreed to terms and his management have notified Fremantle. He hasn't publically commented but has authorised Greg Swann to do so. Doesnt mean Freo have no chips (you do), but there will be no 4 team bidding war that matters a hill of beans.

A deal will get done, unless Freo force Robert into the PSD. Carlton have no interest in screwing over Freo, but wont offer pick 6.

Sensible thinking would say that if warnock was in the normal draft he would not last to Pick 6 let alone if he was going to be offered say $400+ grand a year.
A ready made ruckman who will walk into your team.
Therefore pick 6 to us sounds ,to me ,like you are getting the good deal.

Nah it has all the hallmarks of being another trade day exercise ....make sure your fax machine is working

Are we allowed to negotiate with teams outside the trade week?

We could theoretically spend the next 3 weeks negotiating the best deal possible then rubber stamp it in the first hour of trade week.

It's all about bartering though Esti. Carlton probably won't budge on pick 24 by itself until the last day of trade week.

I'm starting to think this may be a blessing in disguise... Just so long as we get what he's worth...

He has all the attributes to be a full time No 1 ruckman. But he will never be this at Freo because Sandi is better.

Providing we get a commensurate trade for him (pick 10-20, or Griffin +) we can get what really NEED at Freo: midfield strength.

I reckon a Warnock trade that results in us getting another 1st or early 2nd round mid would be a fair trade.

i cant work out why warnock & his manager are insisting on a 4 year deal.
if he thinks he is a good enough ruckman that is capable of becoming the first ruck in a successfull team & with his age being so young why would he want a contract that tied him into a deal where his future earning potential is limited.

looks to me like he isnt very confident in his ability & is trying to get a sweet deal before he is exposed. ( smells like an ackland deal )

im not saying he is a hack but why would he be so concerned about the term of the deal at his age.

Plus we get rid of a prima donna who does his dealing through the media, doesn't think he needs to perform in the WAFL to get a game and demands long-term big $$ contracts when he's yet to show anything more than a little bit of potential. He's the last player we need on our books with a large influx of kids coming in.

A second rounder and a young player and I'll be more than happy.

I kind of agree with this. If he thinks he's worth $400K a year at 21 with 21 games under his belt, surely he's worth a whole lot more at 23 with around 70 games under his belt?

Pretty sure that was how the Aker deal went through so quickly and smoothly. He had said trade me to WB, so they had talks, and WB said 2nd rounder - BL said fine and it was done on day 1 or day 2. I know there was a bit of extra stuff that went down as WB ended up with another 2nd rounder from another trade. so the actual details of which 2nd rounder wasn't sorted until after that trade was done, but in essence the agreement for the Aker part was already done and dusted by the time trade week officially started.

Ended up being a pretty decent trade for WB - his value was low at the time from the very public falling out with Matthews and the club, and he hadn't played for half a season... plus he was pushing 30... but he has certainly provided good value for them for the cost of a 2nd round pick.

But I digress. I am pretty that if all parties are in agreement, then "preliminary talks" can be held at any time. It's just when clubs hold talks - official or unofficial - with a contracted player outside trade week that it's a bit of a "no-no".
