Carlton made application to the AFL today to transfer Rob Warnock from the primary list to the long term injury list. Warnock has had a set back in his recovery from a foot stress fracture and it was decided to place him on the long term injury list to ensure he has time to fully recover from the injury.

"Obviously it is disappointing for Rob and for Carlton but we are looking after his long-term interests in ensuring he fully recovers from this injury before he returns to training. It is certainly a set back but we have always believed Rob is a ten year player for the Carlton Football Club and it is important we continue to look at the benefit we believe he will bring to the club in the long-term," said General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke.

At this stage the club has not applied to elevate a player from the Rookie list to replace Warnock on the primary list.

I didn't know that Icke showed so much faith in Robbie Warnock. Believing Robbies as being a "ten year player for the Carlton Football Club" is quite a statement.

This is a good decision, IMO. At the moment, we've got enough talent in the Ruck to hold off.

I'd say Jacobs is now assured of being elevated in Warnock's place.

Pretty much leaves the race for our other rookie spots a tussle between Garlett, AJ, Bentley without however forgetting Pfeiffer (given the apparent promises made to his manager otherwise I wouldn't have him)

Would I be right in saying that we will have 3 rookies now on our primary list come rd 1 with one other given an opportunity mid-season?

If we can elevate three rookies this year that would be great, given the form they have shown over the last few weeks. You'd have to say that Jacobs is now a certaintity.

Unless Warnock finds a way to rid himself of his constant injuries, he will not be a 10 year player and live up to the expectations, he has been chronically having injury problems for a number of years and he is a real concern.

I'll reserve my judgement on Warnock until he (if ever) gets on the park for the Blues.

But he did absolutely nothing at the Dockers, not fussed with him not playing, but disgusted with the draft pick we gave away for him.

Where as I do agree with you about the draft pick, I must bring up one player in particular who did nothing at his previous club - Mr. Chris Johnson.

You have to say that Jacobs is a (moon) shoe in for elevation now. What is the situation with rookie listed players when the LTI player is ready for return, do they go back down? or can they stay and another elevated rookie demoted back to rookie, for example Jacobs comes up from LTI in place of Warnock. Joseph also comes up as a nominted rookie. Warnock is ready to resume, but Jacobs is ripping it up so Joseph is demoted back. Does it work that way or if Jacobs comes up for Warnock he must go down again if Warnock comes back?

If Warnock is out a while concievably we could elevate 3 rookies now (1 LTI, 2 nominated) and another after rd 11, so Garlett, Joseph, Jacobs now and Pfieffer after rd11 (I cant see Pfeiffer getting promoted early as he has not played much pre season footy, he may even be injured.

So dissappointing we dont seem to be able to recruit a ready to go ruckman for love or money, thats 3 in a row now, McLaren, Ackland and now Warnock (and we had a crack at a couple of others that did not make it to us but also did not do so well where they went so whilst we might be getting the draft and rookie draft right only Kruizer has worked for us in the ruck dept and even then he is not an ideal ruckman. Lets hope Hanson and Jacobs come on fast.

We got the player we would have drafted then anyway- Robinson- so it's not a wasted pick.

An extra pick in the draft, rather than a ruckman who'd shown nothing for Freo... and was injured when we got him anyway.
Would Ratten, Icke and Swann have chased Warnock if he'd shown nothing?

They're not supporters who aim to get bites and have more knowledge of other codes of football.

It was a good trade for list balance and not over odds for a 206 cm ruck who possesses a big motor.

We needed a ruck ahead of another midfielder that would have been Robinson.

Are you being serious mate? Yes, I agree this is a good decision as this is in his best interests long term but if you honestly believe we are rich with talent in the ruck ATM that this doesn't create an issue you are kidding yourself. Kreuzer and Hampson are extremely talented but they aren't AFL ruckman yet, you only had to see Ottens ragdoll Kreuzer last weekend to see this. We are going to get pummeled in the hit outs this year. I'd play Jacobs as he at least has the size to contest but he becomes a liability around the ground with his lack of athleticism. Ruck is going to continue to be an issue for us over the next few years until Kreuzer and Hampson have the size and experience to compete or Warnock stops getting injured.

Not ideal, was really looking forward to Warnock but this gives Jacobs a chance by default.

Bit of a worry with Warnock, seems a tad cursed. Being such a massive unit does not bode well for his recovery from this type of injury. After all ruckman are big and are kind of are meant to run and jump, that would add pressure to, ahem, "stress factured" feet.

So, a good decision to put him on ice, literally!

And now the masterstroke is revealed. Warnock was never going to be our first ruck folks. He was recruited to give a hurry up to Hammer and Sammy. Judging by their form last game and for Sammy throughout the NAB Cup .... mission accomplished. We now have two hungry rucks feeling the pressure of last chance senior football, coming on strong ... all for the bargain basement price of Pick 24.

Sheer brilliance Blues .... sheer brilliance.

:D:D bad luck this is as small as the font size goes

Hammers poetential>>>>Warnocks poetential. In all seriousness though Jacobs could play round 1 but really depends if they want Hammer, K bomb and Cloke all rucking as well.

It's very doubtful that they'd have all three of them sharing equal time in the Ruck.

I think it's safe to say that Sauce will line up in Round 1. He's had a brilliant pre-season. :thumbsu:

Anyone notice in the Cat's match that Jacobs and Kreuze would be 1st and 3rd man up in around the ground ruck stoppages... interesting tactic - might see the Blues going taller than usual in some matches this year.

However, you fail to notice that it only brings each of our successive picks down a notch. If we would have drafted Robinson with pick 20 then we would still have pick 40 to use.

Just because we chose players that we rated higher than their eventual draft positions does not mean that there were not others we also rated who were no longer available.

A little disappointed that Warnock has not been able to overcome these constant injuries since he was recruited to our footy club. I'm glad that we've placed him on our LTI, and given him all the time he needs to get his body right. It will also give Jacobs, and possibly Hampson a real chance at establishing themselves in the senior team.

Try a happy meal.

You're always searching for the holy grail and thinking the grass is greener somewhere else.

Even after we signed Judd and Armfield for picks 3, 20 and Kennedy.

Sauce has been very solid but what I saw from Hammer was the other night was him throwing Ottens around at boundary throw ins which I can't remember happeneing at Carlton.

I think you're taking my words the wrong way, mate.

We have enough talent in our Ruck to hold off without Warnock, is what I should have said to avoid this. :thumbsu:

Not true.
not fussed with him not playing, but disgusted with the draft pick we gave away for him.
Given that the bloke we would have taken at pick 24 was still there for us to take at pick 40, why the disgust?

The other clubs inability to see the talent that is Mitch Robinson has effectively handed Warnock to us for near nothing. Disgusted? Hardly.
