Warnock

why would we get rid of m.warnock after he has had his best season at the club?
face the facts, warnock will be coming to melbourne for a psd pick or a very late national draft pick..stop pretending you have any power. He has hinted that he wants to be a demon anyway.

I've heard that young people cant recognise sarcasm. You muppet.

I couldnt see you getting our first rounder, it will be pick 7 or 8. We would definetly offer our second rounder though (25 odd).

If you make the finals it could be pick 10 or 11. Lot of variables still to come before i start making more precise predictions.

Like you said, it would be foolish for Richmond not to offer its 2nd rounder as a bare minimum. Your financially much more secure than Melbourne and should definately be able to match their offer. Therefore you only have to beat their trade offer and i think Warnock would move to either club.

The top ruck spot looks more attractive at Richmond. Less competition once Simmonds retires. Also allows for a 12 month transition while he's eased into the role after a shoulder reconstruction.

On the topic of Coughlan. I would be very skeptical. Would just have to be a sweetener with them paying his contract. Would much prefer a bunch of other players on their list ahead of him.

Wallace confirms that Tigers will chase Warnock
Lyall Johnson | August 20, 2008

RICHMOND coach Terry Wallace yesterday flagged the club's interest in pursuing Fremantle giant Robert Warnock.

The 206-centimetre, 21-year-old Docker, who was drafted in 2005 from Sandringham under 18s but has played only 21 games, is out of contract this season and has indicated he wants to return home.

The Tigers, with Troy Simmonds playing a lone hand in the ruck while Adam Pattison and former Bomber Tristan Cartledge develop, are in desperate need of another tall centre-square option.

Fremantle is trying to hold Warnock, with coach Mark Harvey yesterday lashing out at Melbourne for making a presentation to the player last week. "I thought it was an interesting tactic," Harvey said. "I don't think he (Warnock) has been affected by what appears to be an ambush."

Wallace said yesterday he was certain the Tigers would talk to Warnock about the possibility of coming to Punt Road.

"He's a big boy, he's a big lad. And he's a Melbourne-based boy who looks clearly like he's coming back to Melbourne," Wallace said. "Of course, from a recruiting perspective, we'd be in the marketplace.

"My job at this time of the year is to concentrate on the last two games of the season and let the recruiting boys do what they need to do. I don't like to get clouded between the two at this stage of the year but we probably are looking for another ruckman, so he'd be on our radar."

Warnock visited Demon headquarters last Thursday after accepting an invitation from former Dockers coach Chris Connolly, now Melbourne football operations manager.

But when Warnock arrived, Connolly, Melbourne coach Dean Bailey and a group of players clad in suits were there to greet him, armed with a powerpoint presentation in their bid to entice him to the club.

The in-demand Warnock, whose brother plays at Melbourne, could command about $1 million over the next three years on the open market, with a number of Victorian clubs expected to bid for his services.:thumbsu:

The Demons, who are almost certain to finish last, could snare Warnock without trading for him via the pre-season draft.

Fremantle chief executive Steve Rosich is expected to talk with Warnock and his manager Colin Young over the coming weeks about a new deal.

Warnock, who had season-ending shoulder surgery after round 17, managed only nine games this year, spending most of the first half of the season battling for form in the WAFL.

"Robbie's a required player and in the end, that will be his decision about what he wants to do," Harvey said.

Are they just???

They play Port Muppets, and Richmond in the last two weeks. Power put the white flag up weeks ago, and Richmond are like a yo yo. I'd tip Melbourne this weekend.

There is 120 points difference % wise between Demons and WCE. WCE take on rebounding Hawthorn this week, and then head down to Skilled Stadium for a pantsing by the Cats. They are a fair chance to get belted by 120 BOTH games!

If Port beat Melbourne this week, Port would jump back over us, leaving us with Pick 3, and Nic Nat to replace Warnock if required, or Hartlett/Ziebell as Phil Smart decides.

BEST result, Melbourne lose to Port, win vs Richmond, WCE get pumped and finish with the Spoon, and taking pick 1 off Melbourne. :D

Regardless on the above scenario's and depending on what is offered by Melbourne, I'd be tempted to play hardball, and let Melbourne use their PSD on him, which in turn effectively bumps us up a spot in the PSD. Which may or may not be better than pick 51 by the time delistings occur in October.

You know I hope we wouldn't accept it and say go into the PSD ....Melb may very well say fine we hold all of the cards.

However I guarantee you that with the state of Melb's list if they can trade and get Warnock (lets say for 51) - they will avail themselves of someone in the PSD.

It may not be a lot but if they offer 51 and he only wants the Dees - let him walk and at least cost them a Cam Cloke type or deny them the ability to let a few undrafted youngsters train with them allowing them to take the one that suits them the best.

Play hardball, cut nose off etc ...losing pick 51 aint going to kill us and it means if a higher profile player happens to nominate (trade week can get hectic at the end) ...it costs them all flexibility.

This is what I am hoping for, if they are going to insult us and offer pick 51. Let him go for nothing, make a stand.

Doesn't matter, that'll give WC pick 1 in the PSD and why would they take a player who's left his perth based club to come back to melbourne? Pick 2 in the PSD with WC having pick 1 is just as valuable in this situation.

Does anyone know which team he supported growing up?

Not sure who he supported, but he played junior footy for Sandringham in the TAC and his brother came to melbourne through Sandy in the VFL, Sandrignham are melbourne's current VFL affiliate.

I'd prefer not to accept pick 51, its not enough compensation and it leaves them with the PSD free (an upgrade of 1 place in the PSD is better than pick 51).

I didn't consider that. :thumbsu:

I think Robert Warnock will seriously consider Richmond. They will keep Melbourne honest at the trade table. Terry Wallace is in his last year of contract. He'll be throwing picks around willy nilly to keep his job.

Richmond are better placed to offer more money.

You're forgetting the brother factor. If Matthew wasn't at the Demons then I'd be really confident of him choosing Richmond, Carlton or St Kilda.

That statement above makes Richmond look much more professional than Melbourne.

That refers to dollars, not during trade week. If Robbie only wants to play for Melbourne it doesn't matter if 8 clubs are interested from a Fremantle POV.

The more clubs that throw their hat in the ring the better it is for Warnock because it drives his contract up.

Unless WC trade this PSD pick 1 to, say, Richmond, who I'm sure would be more than happy to give up a player that WC might want in order to secure Warnock through the PSD.

Of course, this scheme falls in a hole if PSD picks can't be traded. I don't know about these things.

you would think from a bargaining perspective at least initially Warnock is better off saying he is still deciding.

They can't.
