Just curious, watching some highlights of the 85' season and he is killing them.

How are you enjoying Ottens, he be very good for you guys come finals time.

does anyone know the history of your best ever player. I thought this wouldn't be to hard of a question and be answer in seconds????

Ablett's first year at Geelong was 1984. He killed them from the first game and played for Victoria that year (thanks to Teddy campaigning hard).

As for Ottens, the majority of us love him.
He's giving us stuff we haven't had since the mid 90's. A strong marking target in one-on-one contests, a ruckman capable of putting the ball down the throat of his midfielders and a forward who takes the responsbility to kick big goals rather than passing off.

Of stated on our board that I think Brad Ottens by the end of the year will be a top ten player in the comp and your most valuable player. Taking away nothing from the players that you already have but Ottens is exactly what you needed. And he will deliver, especially when it matters and come finals time he will set the place on fire. He is the best player the club has lost since Raines.

pretty sure it was 2002 v the bombers.

& I hope the 2 picks u got for Ottens works out well for u guys in the long run, there are still some gems outside the first 10 picks, e.g. Hunt/Rivers/Miller.

I had a crack at Geelong's U19's in '84 (old zoning rules) and played a pre-season intraclub at Anglesea.

We finished our game and sat back to watch the Seniors v Reserves. I was asked "who is no. 47 on the wing?".

In one of the great replies, I said "Geoff Ablett's brother, didn't make it at Hawthorn, won't make it here".

He promptly played the single best game of football I've ever seen from a player. 20 odd marks and about 8 goals from the wing before he was taken off and hidden until round 1.

Seconded. Remember that debut along with Williams?

Yes against Fitzroy. Ablett, Williams and Jacko all made their debut that day. Jacko kicked 9ish I think in probably his best performace for us. Williams was great in the centre but Gary Snr was BOG by a mile , had the 3 Brownlow vots bagged except he was reported for a high elbow , got 3 weeks I seem to remember

Yep Ablett started in 84 and played state footy, remember reading that Whitten told Jeans who didn't like Ablett when hew coached him at Hawthorn, Whitten swore that Ablett was good enough to play state footy and put his own reputation on the line saying ablett had to play and that was that he said as state selector,Jeans said that he was lazy and not good enough but Teddy got his way, he went on and kicked 8 or 9 goals and i think the vics lost to WA but 3 pnts (correct me if i'm wrong)

della!

Good to hear from someone from Tigerland who isn't so bitter about Otten's leaving that all they want to post is crap like idiots " it'sintheblood" and "tigerboyz". Good on you Nut.

I've actually followed Otten's career fairly closely since he was drafted (believing he should have gone #1 when he was drafted) and have always had a high opinion of his ability. It appears that he is a fairly introverted fellow and may be the reason why he has been a little inconsistent as his confidence fluctuates along with some injury setback's he has had.

I was over the moon to pick-up a player of his size and ability at what i believe to be a bargain price as we have never been in a position to do so in the draft.

Time will tell whether it will be a win-win all round as it has been with Colbert for Mooney and Enright or Bizzell for Kelly and Playfair.

Like you i feel he will just get better as the season progresses.

One of the all-time great posts! Brilliant!

BTW, you must have been pretty good to even get that close. :)
