Play Nice Was that Gaffs last game for WC?

If Basil is a genuine reporter, he has the chance to ask the following questions to Lyon at the 6pm news this evening:
1. Why you sent an 18 years old to tag Gaff?
2. What did Brayshaw say to Gaff immediately before the incident?
3. Did the language Brayshaw used has anything similar or relating to the Fremantle female staff harrassment case?
4. Does Fremantle has a culture problem? Why harassment case detail was not disclosed with details?

Next level stupid.

Sorry but anyone who thinks Gaff intentionally set out to king hit Brayshaw in the face with the hope of causing real damage is seriously delusional.

In an act that happens to him every game, and already was happening in this game, his run was constantly blocked with arms and body blocks. He gets away by punching away the arm blocking him and sometimes the body/chest area. This time it went horribly wrong and as he went for the body punch an unfortunate Brayshaw slipped/leant down and instead of body Gaff got him in the worst possible spot. It was an underarm swing, not a hook, not a roundhouse and not a straight jab.

Besides Brayshaw himself and his family there is probably nobody who feels as worse and sick about this whole thing as Gaff, they are actually mates afterall.

It happened, he will cop his whack and will have to live with what he caused. To hang him, call him a dog/thug etc is just not right and those doing it are just dead set trolls.

Brayshaw has a horrible month of recovery ahead of him and I wish him all the best and am sure he will be back as good as ever for next season.

I hope Gaff stays with WCE but this may just be the turning point for a return to Melbourne.

Wow, just wow. Lost all respect for the Eagles. Fans (not all) are disgusting, many clearly making excuses and victim blaming, the standing ovation, just disgusting. The coach defends , deflects and then rewards Gaff with 4 coaches votes. I liked Simpson up until Sunday, not any more. The CEO makes tough statements about exactly this kind of act during preseason the backtracks when one of his own is involved and has a crack at a clearly upset opposition club.

The Eagles have drenched themselves in shit in their response. It can be clearly contrasted with the reaction to Bugg's hit on Mills by Melbourne. The fans, the coach and the club all said it was completely unacceptable and Buggy would have to work to regain respect.

The Eagles have never rated that high on the list of clubs I hate, now they're right up there with Essendon, Carlton and Hawthorn

On the topic of 'Was this Gaffs last game for WC', does anyone else think the whole incident might actually increase his chances of remaining an Eagle? A lot of opposition fans hate him right now so it wouldn't look great for an opposition team to sign him. You'd think his value on the market has taken a bit of a hit so might bring him back more into the eagles budget. Winning the brownlow would have upped his value and cost him too. I also wonder how he would feel leaving West Coast with this as his final game legacy?
Yes, if the penalty is in the 12weeks+ region it might scare some clubs off. Also if WC don't win the GF this year i think Gaff will feel quite responsible and might want to make up for it. However if you don't win the GF i think the WC fanbase will most likely turn on Gaff.

If Gaff is truly I sorry I will accept it IF he turns his back on a return to Melbourne and continues to play his footy in WA for Fremantle.

If I were WCE, i'd be searching for videos in past games of Gaff hitting other players in the chest and just play the hit gone wrong* angle (which it almost certainly was), pray for 5 weeks and get back for a GF, I don't think he will get less than 7 though. Imagine he does play a GF and wins the Norm Smith, it just wouldn't be a good look for the image conscious AFL.

*the only hard thing with that argument is he bolted off and didn't stop, he would've known once he hit him where it connected, I just think he didn't realise how flush he got him.

Your very wrong re your last point.

Or he just snapped, punched the guy and now feels bad about it? You don't have to be this 'big-bad' to snap and do something stupid.

It doesn't look good that after obviously stuffing up and hitting him in the face he just ran away.

You serious?

Ah. So it’s only “crying” and “offended” if someone else does it. You’ve got a lot of posts in this thread complaining at people, hence “whining”

If only you could discuss the topic as well as you give out shitty childish potshots.

Although I think you need to use the terms “triggered” and “SJW” to get maximum effect.

Maybe in future if you are going to whinge when people reply, just don’t post.
Thanks for proving my point. You are yet to show me any evidence of me whining.

And Thanks for the advice in regards to some of the terms I can refer to you with. Admitting it is the first step, hey?

WC fans can't make their mind up if it was a brain-snap or a tummy-hit gone completely wrong. If Gaff was of such good character and it was an accident don't you think he would have immediately stopped after seeing that he just floored a teenager with a hit to the jaw, a teenager that is supposedly a friend. It wasn't like the game was on the line, you were 50 odd points up ffs.

Gaff looked at Brayshaw the entire time. He swung a haymaker, landed a king hit on an unsuspecting player, saw him collaspe to the ground and then ran off like a coward.

You’re either a really bad troll, or just struggling with basic concepts very badly.

I’m happy for you to reply. I’ve responded to what you’ve actually said. You’ve yet to actually respond to a point on topic. You’ve actually really not responded to anything other than some vague accusations of me “taking offense” (Although you haven’t said what to)

We get it, he’s a west coast player and you’re upset because it’s your team.

You know more than anyone re what happened, you even know exactly where Gaff was looking!

Are we now going down the route of 'could have killed him'?

Christ almighty on a stick the hysteria culture nowadays...

Go listen to Neville Bruns interview on SEN . Bruns suffered the same injuries as Brayshaw from the Mathews punch and Bruns was told by the doctors that the punch could have killed or put him in a coma so yes Brayshaw could have died from the hit and many havent been as lucky as Bruns or Brayshaw.

It was chest punch gone wrong. I saw the one 30 seconds earlier right in front of me. Same action, but Brayshaw was upright at the time. Chest hits happen 50 times a game (but they shouldnt) by all teams - taggers/ scraggers cop them all the time. The scoreline was irrevelant, he was dealing (badly) will someone blocking his run / scragging him. There was no ill intent.

Gaff would have had no idea of the damage done at the time.

Gaff did the damage and will be rightly suspended - but the hate against him is terrible. I can't recall the media ever going so overtop as with this case.

About time the bald git was called out. He somehow survived the cousins era of cover ups and staging while kerr, cousins, chicky and co flushed there lives away. He is toxic to all things football.
Wow, I didnt realise he'd been the boss since back then. He really does control WA footy!

You are welcome to go to the game on the 19th Aug to support your team and express your hatred.
Dont insult the fans there though, especially the Eagles fans!

The "hate" as you call is is so "overtop" because this is the first time in 35 years that someone has had their jaw broken like this by a sucker punch, whether intended for the jaw or not.

Things that have happened since the last time we saw a punch like this:

- The Soviet Union disintegrated
- Amazon was founded
- Smartphones were invented
- South Africa was liberated
- Pluto was decided not to be a planet
- Australian cricket sucked, was world beaters, sucked again
- Michael Jordan played his entire NBA career
- Richmond won a Grand Final

There have been a large number of near miracles since something like this last happened.

Not sure if you are stupid or just plain ignorant, so I'll ask one more time. Where is this supposed evidence of me whining? You have done nothing but deflect the question.

So was he supposed to say '' I'm going to punch you now, ready? '' and after he did it carry him off the ground in both arms.

Sounds logical.
