After that Gaff punch, was the first time I've seen Freo players show heart all season.

Most players try and punch the ball, when the ball is nearby. Not an opponents jaw, 50 metres off the ball.

Have to laugh at the responses, Brayshaw clearly drops as he goes to change direction.

Gaff is gone for 4 weeks or so but it's not a haymaker, nor did he line him up. It's a poorly executed punch to the body and he'll miss games accordingly.

Cotchins action was at least apart of the play and a valid action thats legal, Gaff should be arrested for assault. Disgusting anyone would excuse a gutless punch like that.

I was bewildered how Cotchin was cleared to play in the GF and I'd be even more bewildered if Gaff was cleared.

It's bad no doubt. But I really don't think he intended to hit him in the face. If you look at the incident Brayshaw slipped about a second before Gaff made contact. I think he was going for the peck. Don't know whether that will get taken into consideration.

Both look almost identical, except Gaffs resulted in a broken Jaw.

Impossible to say which, but given Gaff's history, I'm leaning toward him being genuinely upset about what he did. He looked near tears and I doubt weeks on the sidelines would elicit that reaction. They have shown it several times now and this wasn't him lining Brayshaw up and trying to punch him into next week, it's a swing of the arm. I doubt the intent was there and I doubt he even knew the extent of what he did in the moment.

But as someone else pointed out, that's why any kind of punch is reckless. He's going to pay a price. I feel for Brayshaw, I really do hope he's ok.

Though he most probably didn't intend to hit him in the face, players do owe some level of a duty of care to one another and no matter where he hits him I'm sure that breaching this duty of care will be heavily considered by the MRP.

Thoughts are with young Brayshaw at this time. Certainly a hiedous act and I'm still shocked by it. Gaff would literally be the last person on the eagles list that I'd think of throwing a haymaker off the ball. The bloke seems universally respected as a top guy who doesn't have a bad bone in his body.

Whatever punishment is coming his way will be deserved. I honestly think he was going for a gut/chest punch and was a clumsy swinging arm which unfortunately got him high. As for the bashing of eagles fans at the game, to me it looked like the fans getting behind a player who was visibly upset knowing he ****ed up majorly. I don't think any eagle fan here or at the game (apart from the odd idiot) condones what happened.

Also Brayshaw slipping last minute. Gaff swing height is actually at waist level. He got him on a quick split second set of circumstances with Brayshaws positioning. Dumb yes but in Gaffs defense it was not aiming for head contact and going to be a punch to the gut. Was dumb and will get weeks but is no way near what Barry Hall did.
