I must be out of touch.. but what is the point of character references. They should have no bearing on the sentence. Just fairy dust aimed to distract. We know Gaffs a good bloke, but there are consequences for 'split second' dumb decisions. Just shut up and take your medicine. Why is character evidence being heard? Last year the AFL said the Tribunal was "not a referendum on Bachar Houli as a person" and disregarded his character references as it "might set a dangerous precedent".

If Gaff is saying that he was just trying to push him off (that part is a lie) in the chest (as I believe he tried) but failed, what's there to stop him from don't it again accidentally and doing something even worse next time?
In fact if you slow it down and watch Gaff's left arm is it was still in backward motion before Brayshaw head is at its lowest point. If Brayshaw doesn't lower his head there is a possibility the punch may have landed on his throat, crushing his Larynx and possibly killing him.
Is Gaff truly remorseful? Does he understand the implications of his actions, the severity of them, the potential of even greater injury and that no circumstances (especially been checked for tagging) are legitimate excuses?
My verdict... 16 weeks.

No, that's not my reading at all.
This isn't a court of law. The AFL isn't the state. A lot of AFL structures rely on good faith cooperation of the industry and them not being subjected to real legal challenge.
Playing cops and prosecutors is both the wrong approach and to me undermines what the tribunal should be about. Employees of a private entity settling grievances and negotiating workplace penalties should be done through an arbitration process.

Look Bro, Gaff has already plead guilty.
If that is all that matters, why is he even speaking at the moment? Why is he being cross examined at the moment?
Because the tribunal want to hear about anything that mitigates the offence (I didnt mean it, i have a good record, I feel genuine remorse etc) or that aggravates it (it was a straight up king hit to an unsuspecting player, off the ball).
After hearing all that, they'll determine the appropriate sanction for the actual offence as it happened taking into account any relevant information.
Please stop arguing this. You're self evidently wrong.
