Appearing on 106.7 The Fan in D.C., the Washington Post's Mike Jones stated the Redskins and GM Scot McCloughan are "headed to a divorce."

Jones essentially stated that Jay Gruden's two-year extension was a P.R. move amid organizational chaos. "And that's the sad thing, because Scot is such a good dude," said Jones. "Loves football. Eats, drinks, sleeps it. You talk to guys who've worked with him in the league, and all he does is watch football and unfortunately drink. There's frictions that are going on there between him and (team president) Bruce Allen ... some type of blowup. This thing is headed to a divorce." Jones guessed McCloughan's exit will be made official after April's draft.

Lol, the first guy Snyder ever extends is a guy with a <50% winning record. People wonder why the Skins have become a joke.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Redskins have begun mulling new GM candidates, and the name of ESPN analyst Mark Dominik "has surfaced."

La Canfora confirms multiple previous reports that dysfunction has returned to the Redskins' front office -- a recurring theme during Dan Snyder's reign of terror -- and in-limbo GM Scot McCloughan is expected to be ousted after April's draft. In addition to Dominik, La Canfora mentions in-house scout Alex Santos as a candidate for the GM role. Long term, there is no hope for the Redskins' organization to build a non-laughingstock as long as Snyder owns the team.

Stupid post for about 5 reasons:
WERE a joke, not ARE a joke.
Gruden's has a winning record last 2 seasons
He has developed Cousins into a good qb
He has done this without some first round draft picks.
He is doing it with all with a numbnuts owner and disfunctional front office.

Scott Mcloughan's (sp?) current predicament would suggest the skins are still providing comedic value to the NFL community. Therefore ARE a joke.

In a wide-ranging column detailing the Redskins' impending split with GM Scot McCloughan, the Washington Post explains the separation was caused by arguments over control and whether to sign Kirk Cousins long term, and the Redskins' lack of support for McCloughan.

We would recommend reading the piece below if you're any kind of an NFL fan. McCloughan felt disrespected the Redskins did not defend him when Chris Cooley spread a rumor McCloughan had relapsed into alcoholism. McCloughan also told people in 2016 he would have signed Cousins long term "if he had full control," which "angered" president Bruce Allen. McCloughan and the coaching staff clashed over McCloughan's preference of more-talented Rashad Ross over coaches-pet Ryan Grant. The Post reports McCloughan never stopped drinking, but "peers all agreed they didn't believe McCloughan's drinking ever hindered his job." Per the Post, the Redskins and McCloughan are now "working toward a buyout." Allen and coach Jay Gruden have won the power struggle.

Fair point, their front office has a history of incompetence and scott has an impressive track record. I usually think of losing teams as jokes, and the skins have put together back to back winning seasons.

Let's add further weight to the "Are a joke" argument.

1. 2 top WR's are out. Garcon to the 49ers and DJax to the Bucs.
2. Kirk Cousins is reported to be pleading for a trade with Snyder not budging. Cousins still hasn't signed his Franchise Tag. If he leaves after this upcoming season the Skins get a 3rd round pick as compensation. Surely even Snyder/Bruce Allen can see they'll get more trading him now.
3. A source that says he/she cannot be named came out and just slammed Scott McCloughan claiming he reported to work drunk on multiple occasions (just heard this off a podcast I listen to). Not sure why they needed to do that, assuming Snyder wants to avoid paying him a few million on the way out.

Ex-Redskins GM Scot McCloughan says his dismissal wasn't related to his past drinking problems.

The disclosure comes via friend and former NFLer Michael Robinson, whom McCloughan helped sign in Seattle. Via Robinson, McCloughan termed his firing as a "pride thing" by Redskins president Bruce Allen. The way Robinson tells the story, Allen dressed McCloughan in a post-Combine meeting. "Nobody likes you in this building. Nobody wants you here," was the way McCloughan recounted Allen's comments to Robinson. By all indications, Allen has gone mad with power (again).

Team president Bruce Allen said the Redskins would be willing to place the franchise tag on Kirk Cousins next offseason.

"Yes," Allen said when asked directly about tagging Cousins for the third year in a row. "We really have one year and an option that we can do at the end of next season if we don’t get a contract." Tagging a player three years in a row is intentionally cost prohibitive, and Cousins would be due $34 million if Washington tags him again next spring. The Redskins do have other options, including the transition tag ($28 million) and non-exclusive franchise tag which would both offer the right of first refusal if Cousins signs an offer sheet somewhere else. Of course, all of this madness could be avoided if Washington matches Cousins' contract demands by the July 15 deadline, but that is unlikely at this point.

Redskins named Doug Williams senior vice president of player personnel.

Williams was the MVP for the Redskins in their Super Bowl XXII victory. Team president Bruce Allen will retain most of the front office power, but the promotion makes Williams the top personnel guy in the organization even if he was not given the general manager tag. Eric Schaffer was promoted to VP of football ops, while Kyle Smith was named director of college scouting. After a tumultuous run with ex-GM Scot McCloughan, this has the makings of a front office which can actually work together.

Hey guys,
So I'm a long time observer of bigfooty. Enjoy reading posts but never felt a need to contribute myself. So first post here as got an enquiry and not really sure where else to have it answered
Travelling to Washington DC later this year (late November) for about a week. Ideally would like to attend a Gridiron game and am there for Redskins vs NY Giants (23rd Nov) as well as Maryland vs. Penn State (25th Nov) college game. Bias toward the Redskins aside, what would be a better spectacle. Done some basic research and general consensus is that college games are better entertainment/atmosphere, but NFL would obviously be a better standard. However also considered the crowd size for each stadium and obviously if the FedEx stadium is filled 80,000 would make for an amazing atmosphere. Also noted that the Giants are a big side, and the Maryland game is their last home game of the season- so not assume these are both factors. Any suggestions for which would be better for a gridiron nuffy like myself?
Much appreciated

Hey mate,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Hope you see this in time.

To answer your question; the Redskins game will be the much better spectacle.

You are right that some college games can have a better atmosphere than NFL games, but that's really only in the big traditional powerhouse college football areas, of which Maryland certainly is not. The Terps just aren't anywhere close to the same level as your Alabama/Ohio State/LSU/Auburn/Michigan/etc teams.

A source with knowledge of the situation told Profootballtalk.com that "internal disagreement exists" within the Redskins' organization "regarding (Kirk) Cousins' actual value."

"Internal disagreement" has existed in Washington's front office regarding Cousins' value for several years, and the leaks are coming out now with just days left before the deadline for teams to sign franchise-tagged players long term. Per Bleacher Report's Jason Cole, ex-Redskins GM Scot McCloughan "wanted to give Cousins a contract extension before 2015," but the "front office declined." The "front office" was/is Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen, who have messed this up from the get go and appear to be in no rush for a resolution.

In a public statement, the Redskins placed the blame squarely on franchise player Kirk Cousins' camp for the sides' inability to reach a long-term agreement by Monday's 4pm ET deadline.

The statement, which can be read at the below link, provides actual contract numbers offered by the team, a rare sight in today's NFL. We actually can't say we've ever seen it before in a publicly-issued statement like this. "Kirk has made it clear he prefers to play on a year-to-year basis," the statement reads, and claims Cousins' agent did not make a single contract offer during the negotiating process. The sides appear to be heading for a 2018 divorce.

The Redskins were unable to agree on a long-term deal with franchise player Kirk Cousins before Monday's 4pm ET deadline.

He'll play 2017 on his $23.94 million tender, making Cousins the first quarterback in NFL history to spend two straight years on a franchise tag. Although Cousins' camp leaked word Sunday that they are open to a long-term deal with Washington after the season, no one behind the scenes buys that Cousins wants to stay in D.C. at all. Now coached by Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers are the favorites to land Cousins if he hits free agency in 2018. The Redskins are expected to consider transition tagging Cousins next offseason, although it would come at a $28.73 million cost.

What a joke of a franchise, they remove McCoughlan who is good at his job and keep Allen, who is bad at his job. They opted into RG3's 5th year rookie deal even though he did not produce, yet they refuse to pay Cousins who has produced. Poor Washington fans always end up getting Snyder'ed.

PODCAST
Checking in on Training Camp
Today’s show is of course focused on everything that’s happened so far at Washington Redskins Training Camp, which began on Thursday last week. With the exception of Sunday, the players have been out on the track every day in Richmond, and some pretty juicy story lines are starting to emerge!

Hosts Chad Ryan and Mark Phillips are joined by the man who not only literally wrote the book on the Redskins, he wrote three books on the Redskins! He is the longest tenured Redskins blogger going around, and is a member of the Pro Football Writers of America. But beyond all that, he’s also one of the most fun people to sit beside and watch football with. It is of course Rich Tandler from CSN Mid Atlantic, and together we recap all the action from the first few days at Training Camp, including who is looking good, who is struggling, who is hurt, and who is healthy, to name just a few of the topics covered.

All that and more on another episode of the number one Redskins podcast, thanks to you the listeners!

CSN Mid-Atlantic's Rich Tandler doesn't believe fourth-rounder Samaje Perine is going to push Rob Kelley for the starting job "anytime soon."

That's been pretty evident for weeks now, and Perine didn't do anything to close the gap in Thursday's preseason opener by fumbling the ball, dropping a third-down pass, and getting crossed up in a blitz pickup. Fumbling and pass protection have been ongoing issues for Perine all camp. Kelley is miles ahead in this battle.
