Watson 1st Slip?

It was a good feeling during mid/late 90s when you knew when there was an edge it was going to be caught. Mark Taylor at 1st was the best slipper I've seen (still racking my brain to remember one he dropped), Mark Waugh at 2nd was mercurial and close to Taylor in consistency.

These days you have Michael Clarke who I think is horrible and merely there on his reputation as a cricketer. Marcus North is ordinary and looks surprised whenever one goes to him, hence a lot of diving and one-handed attempts.

We need to get this fixed. In my opinion Shane Watson looks the safest catcher in the team, has big buckets and would be ideal at 1st, yet never seems to be in the cordon. Hauritz is another who I think would be a good option in the slips as he has looked decent when in there.

The sign of a quality team is one who almost never drops catches, and I think prime evidence of the decline in the Australian Test team is its performance in the field - particularly in the slip region - and is something we need to get fixed.

Get Watson in at 1st!

IMO:

K: Haddin
1st: North
2nd: Ponting
3rd: Watson
Gully: Hussey
Point: Clarke
Mid-off: bowler
Mid-on: bowler
Square Leg: Kat
Fine Leg: bowler

clarkes good except when he drops two.

and almost cost his country the game

Nobody in the team is a good slipper. They all stand too far back and Ponting has this horrible fingers up technique in every situation which has come back to hurt him a few times.

If you have time to dive forward at slip then you are standing too far back. So many balls fall short of the Australian slip fielders.

Pretty much this.

I'd put him there, just to get him out of the outfield.

He runs in quicksand in the outfield. He was chasing a ball today, and he was so amazingly slow, it was hilarious.

Watson can field anywhere, I think North is a decent enough slipper though.

Has anyone seen Shane Watsons body? He is really ripped

you think?

bet he would like to 'rethink' these shots more than he would like to 'rethink' the shot he played on 96 the other day!
