I think the opposite TBH. Any mistakes in the back half are magnified so I'd rather we keep him on a wing/HF Flank while he's developing.
How many mistakes does he make? I think that's his strength and you don't think VB makes mistakes?

Fortunately VB doesn't get the ball very often.

Agreed but do you think Milera makes mistakes?
I think he's played one AFL game so yes, he will make mistakes. Think he can be more damaging on a wing or on the half forward line as he seems to be good at hitting targets. If he plays half back he'll have to be accountable for his player. Can't expect him to just be loose at half back all day.

He has played 3 NAB cup games and 1 AFL game. Have you seen him make mistakes in any of those games?

He risks losing his spot once we get players back who play wing or half forward.

Would you rather him out or on the half back flank where he can still hit targets?

I mentioned this in the changes thread for Port, but what are posters thoughts on moving Milera to a half back flank?

Rationale is:

Once Cameron and Menzel are fit he will struggle to hold his place if we base it on current output
He's struggling to get a lot of the ball
Takes the pressure off of him
He played half back in the championships
It would give us another excellent user of the ball coming from defence
If he replaces VB, might actually be some who can provide some run and be part of "midfield rotations"

Thoughts?

I like it but I reckon he is too raw for a key half back position. Will play wing half forward and ultimately play as an outside mid in a few years.

A shift to half back made Andrew McLeod. Didn't happen until year 2 or 3 though. I'd keep him in his current role for now and then perhaps next season a shift to half back could be part of his development.

In your first post you claim you don't want him off HB because he will make mistakes, then in your next post you claim that his ability to hit targets is a strength...

Which is it?

I said in both that he will make mistakes. Saying "he seems to be good at hitting targets" doesn't mean he never makes mistakes. Not sure how you could have interpreted it as such.

Relax mate. Just don't know if putting him at hbf will be good for his development.

I think it has 4 benefits.

1. We can get rid of VB

2. His kicking and pace will be an asset back there.

3. Smith can get more time in the middle.

4. He will struggle to get games in a crowded forwardline. And getting games is the most important part of his development.

I'm struggling to see any negatives, but that's just my opinion.

Fair enough. I think we all can agree that VB should be off to the glue factory

Maybe I should have numbered my points!

Don't mind it, but definitely something to consider when he's further along in his development. Needs to adjust to AFL tempo in his more natural position first.

He played it at the championships

yes but speed of the game is just a little bit higher at AFL than the championships. Just from a development view, it seems the position he is mst comfortable in is half forward so that's where i think he should play his first few games.

Dont want to see him dropped after 1 game. Give him the chance to get accustomed to the speed of the game. If after three games he doesnt improve give him a spell in SANFL.
Exactly give him 3 games and then if no form back to the SANFL and when he hits form again give him another 3games I would love for him to play 12 plus games this year

Name a player that never makes mistakes.

McLeod was a player that rarely made a mistake and when he did worked his ass off to make up for it immediately. Remember Blighty talking about how he'd never seen a player so focused on making up for even a minor mistake.

But yes....I appreciate your point. :)
