hopefully we are all on the same page now. what an extraordinary talent (was tipped to be top 3-5 in draft year before injuries inc a weird heart condition). having seen his best - when fit - in recent years i believe he is actually our most skilful player.

last night his last play - and disregarding the extraordinary goal from 50 under immense pressure with 2-3 mins left, he:

  • positioned himself perfectly a kick behind play
  • led his opponent to the ball
  • took it ONE GRAB in the air (not many can do this)
  • landed like a cat on the ground without losing any balance
  • immediately started to sviwel his hips to lose the tackle (no doubt best in our team, and one of the best in the league at doing this even with a relatively small frame)
  • awareness of what he needed to do
  • under intense tackling pressure got arms free and landed a ****ING PEFECTLY executed handball to Curtin to set up the last goal

Make no mistake, Mileras last act was equally the game deciding act that thankfully Cooks excellent skills capitalised on.

Absolute gun now free from injuries which cruelled 3 out of 5 years (2020, 2021, 2024) and part of 2022 also. Basically many of his peak years

Clearly leading our best and fairest and a monty for AA hbf at this stage. So happy for Junior. Love this bloke.
I agree with all of that, but Curtin's hand pass to Cook was equally good. Set Cooky up perfectly

I thought he was bog yesterday. Very stiff not to win the showdown medal

Crows midfielder Sam Berry claimed his first Showdown Medal after being judged best-a-field in the heart-stopping one-point win against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.

Berry was influential, finishing with 29 disposals, 19 tackles, four clearances and 704 metres gained.

Here are the votes.

No one should have been off the list. He was always a stud, and his only issue has been injuries. He was the one I wanted with the Dangerfield compo pick and we got him.

Just imagine the career he would have had if he had been healthy through it so far.
He is elite by foot, and is our best by foot, by a mile. Some in the anti-Milera camp here tried saying he wasn't much chop and Dawson had him by a mile. Dawson has the lovely long kick and goal kicking ability, but Jrs ability to find a player while under huge pressure is what sets him apart.
He appears to have all the time in the world and doesn't get flustered.

He is also such a nice guy by all accounts. So nice natured and loved by all the team.

Glad to see him delivering some much needed Crow to some Crows supporters.

I love Milera, I was worried keeping him as my avatar for so long wouldn't pay off...

On the weekend Milera and Aliir were awesome and to be fair I think Mileras cancelled goal probably cost him the medal.

But in his defense. Berry set up the middle of the ground for us and was just hard at it all day.

He was up against a midfield with Butters and Horne-Fransis, both who were both in good form before this game. While having less time on ground than either of them.

Not to lean on stats too hard but, 19 tackles while having the most meters gained shows his work rate I think.

The modern game is very focused on the players who can move the ball with speed and the defensive interceptors.
But this game was a tough scrap and we needed some strength around the contest. The next highest tackle count on the ground was wines with 7.

19 tackles, Berry got greedy and it was good to watch.

It’s not going that far, his career was ravaged by injuries and he’s probably been the leagues best HB this year.
He's never shown anything other than HB ability.
On that basis I don't think you could say he would be anywhere near top 5 without injury.

Top 20 would also be pushing it.
Top 5 is for midfielders, key forwards and unicorns.

Monique is correct .

yep curtin had some great moments with handball score assists in the second half. even that last play, IF rachele hadnt also flown for the same ball after tt abd aa both over ran it, dan may have marked 35 metres out. as you say the handball was also an integral part of the final goal which involved perhaps 3 of our most sublimely skilled players. take any of them out and put a peatling/berry/laird/bond etc in and the chain most likely breaks down
