I didn't put McKinley in cause he played a game last year.

Spangher. Fair enough though given he is a few years older and has more muscle. Ebert, S.Selwood and Masten are too small atm.

None, I feel sorry that you picked Mastern, looks too skinny to be out there right now, and you guys could've had Palmer, him being the Western Australian and seemingly perfect replacement for Judd.

Spangher was ok, bit ungamley, but he might be something, has the potential to be a real spud though.

Ebert is way to early to tell, so I won't say anything.

Funny that because you have seemed to make pretty big calls on the other two already.

spangh for me. only a few games in though.

mckinley if you count it as a debut year for him. like what i see.

What were my calls, I never bagged them, one has the potential to be a spud of a footballer and the other is too slight to be playing AFL right now.

I know he is, I am just saying that Palmer has a more AFL ready body, Masten will have to put on about 5-7 kgs before he is ready, I am simply saying that Palmer would have been a more logical pick if WC wanted an instant replacement for Judd.

Or they took the player they believe has the most to offer and will turn out better in Masten.

Spangher for mine, been on his bandwagon for awhile and really looking forward to seeing how he develops. Absolutely killed it in the WAFL prior to debuting and did quite well for a debutant in such a poor game.

Spangher or Masten. Spangher got in quite a few late spoils and showed a bit of dash. I think we really need to create off halfback, so his ability to do this could become an important asset. I thought he showed quite a bit of class in a backline under seige. Gave away two goals for the opponents he was on at the time. That's a good return.

You don't seem to realise I am not having a go at Masten, it's just that for the Eagles right now Palmer would have been a better pick, as he is almost an exact replicar(sp?) of Chris Judd, I am sure Masten will be a great player, and might turn out the better of the two.

I know what recruiting smaller bodied players can do though, if he can't manage to bulk, or put on some extra weight that might turn out to be potential wasted.

Chris Judd was our best inside mid (and the most complete in the comp) and is leading the comp in clearances.

Palmer is an outside mid with a dodgy kick

Masten is an inside mid with very clean hands and is a much more complete player than Palmer.

Definietly should have gone for Palmer

Masten is a GUN inside mid, Foley/Kerr/Cousins all a similar or smaller size when drafted so I don't see it as a long term issue.

Do you watch your own team play. If so you would of seen Palmer having a absolutely terrible game. Do yourself a favor and compare Masten and Palmers stats for this week

16 possessions 3 marks, 8 of those contested, 6 tackles and 1 behind in a team that got thumped in the clearances

Masten was in our top 10 performers on Saturday night and is also 2 kg heavier then Nathan Foley at 79 compared to Foley whose at around 77

How about the Rising Star nomination Palmer got, the reason Palmer was poor was because he was trying to create as Freo weren't doing anything, Palmer was trying to bring them back into the game, unfortunatly for him nobody else wanted to help.

Masten isn't heavier according to his stats, but he is also 3cms taller than Foley.

Surely you wouldn't think Masten looks anywhere near like the ball of muscles that Foley is?

Masten will get a rising star nomination before the years out. Even you know that. Trying to create. He had like one kick inside 50 and it went straight down Will Thursfields throat.

Masten weights the same as Foley and only gives 3cm of height. Dont dodge around the issue by saying its a lie. 8 contested possessions out of 16 against the best contested footy team in the land in Sydney is bloody impressive for a 18 yr old (Palmer is 1 year older then Masten btw). He also laid 6 tackles meaning his tackles were not broken...

Foley is many things. A ball of muscle he is not. Hes got strong legs but so does Masten really hence why both are good in close.

I think you forgot about one other player that needed replacing. Ben Cousins. This is who a player like Masten will replace. Good in the clearances and a VERY hard runner with a tank like no other.

They didnt want to replace Cousins.

Masten easily. Sydney game was great.

Haha couldn't have said it better myself, and i'm not talking on field either

Mind you Masten's turned out to be a clone of Daniel Kerr off the field :o

Of the debutants i've liked the look of Spangher so far, he's had a few years in the system so he's got a leg up on the others who are rookies. Still he had good disposal and fought well against a classier and more seasoned opponent in Micky O.

Scotty Selwood would be next as he's stepped in and done a job whilst being unassuming about it as well.

Masten would be next as he's had a solid start so far. As HBK said he needs to add a bit of muscle to his frame so he can match it with the bigger bodies a bit better.

Ebert to me like he hasn't quite caught on to the pace of top level footy just yet, and it seemed to go too quick for him. Given his pedigree I've got faith the kid can adapt though
