I'd just like to say this isn't posted here as a troll. More to inform the WCE community about what I would hope you think is unacceptable behaviour..
I'm a Lions fan and we always sit in General Admission. We are members but we like to bring mates who aren't and I enjoy the atmosphere in the nose bleed seats.
Years ago this meant an occasion scuffle and some pretty heated verbal jousting.
But in the last 2 or so years its been different. Still heated and passionate during the game, but afterwards it's all hand shakes and 'good game fellas'.
My wife stopped attending 3 years ago because she didn't like the intensity in the crowd, she wasn't a fan of being sworn at or spat on and then having to get out of the way of a scuffle. But last night she came on my promises that it wasn't like that anymore...
Much to my disappointment the WCE fans near us were the worst opposition supporters we've had all year (and believe me Richmond and Bomber fans were scathing during the game, but nothing out of line and it was all handshakes at the end).
When they were losing they were abusive to their players, and to us. They were hitting the booze hard were heavily drunk by the end of the 1Q. By the time they were in the lead they were maggot drunk and were very abusive using every expletive you could think of despite the close proximity of kids.
At the end of the game one pulled my wife's lions scarf off her neck and started dry humping it while his mates tried to bait me and mine into a brawl. I haven't seen any behaviour like that at the Gabba for years.
Considering it was 4th plays 15th in a complete rubber I was a bit shocked that we would have to put up with that crap.
This wasn't just a couple of idiots either. There was about a dozen who though it was a good idea to ruin the night for everyone around them. Security had a word to them a couple of times but didn't see the worst of it to justify doing more.
I'm sure of the people on this board aren't like this, and we did have an old bloke come over afterwards to congratulate us on keeping our cool and apologised for the behaviour of the others. But I just don't think behaviour like this has a place at footy anymore.
