#1 Simply the list is bereft of talent. Carlton 2005/Melbourne 2009 bad.

Make no mistake Simmo has been West Coasts best coach tactically, but perhaps lacking development wise. The 2015 GF & 2018 win wasn't a landslide of overall talent as we have seen with a lot of premiers, but a very well oiled and coached machine.

Disagree.

Agreed. Also we did not take a single top 25 pick in the 2018, 2019 and 2020 drafts. The highest selection we had in the last two of those years was pick 49.

I hope we don't win a game at all.

It's what are list management and recruiters deserve

I want the destruction of the club to be laid bare. This is so Eagles nuffies finally snap and get angry.

You get what you deserve and there has never been a more deserving side to be a team never win a game all season
Really weird thing to say about your own club

Except it's completely beyond that point.

We've been a laughing stock with no end in sight for years. In 2023 we lost a game by 171 points, it's now 2025 and we're still getting belt to ass every week with a trash list who are unfit and uninterested due to a chronic losing culture.

Now what?

Forget about gamelan and skills and all that.

Standards. Set them and don't allow them to be broken without consequences and punishment. And the whole squad needs to buy into it. "If you can't be arsed, you are not only letting your club down, you are letting your team-mate down on the field. And we don't want you here*.

Figure out who's on the bus and who's not. And kick them all out as quickly as we can.

Rinse and and repeat for a fair few years.

We're back to basics of how to raise and discipline a 3 yo and teaching core values.

At some point we will get afl assistance i hope. The more it apparent it is to afl the better

The case we are afls problem is building

Imo, modern coaching assumes this is already stock standard and would rather focus on running fast & flicking the footy around as quickly as possible.

No one even gave a f**k that the skipper was seen catching up with a rival coach, mr reid rolled back into town for pre season with a beer belly, our star recruit goes at just over 50% by foot and there's main board threads comparing the WEST COAST EAGLES to fitzroy.

Big Brain Wtf GIF

Allow me to indulge in some poetry in this most trying and difficult of eras

West Coast's plumbing depths,
Fitzroy's lions were inept,
It will get worse before it gets better i suspect

Since the clubs inception I have always been staunch, but I admit that I am now falling out of love with this club and AFL in general. Sad times.
Just numb to it all now.

Kids coming through only reason to watch but they are so out of their league with little help they can only do so much.

Guess we've got to deal with this for another 3 years til these kids play 50 games together then we start seeing progress.

For the reasons discussed in this thread and numerous other ones, it sucks to be an Eagles fan right now and will continue to do for a long time. But imagine how much worse it would feel if Dom Sheed had missed that very difficult shot at goal.
Freo 30 years in the comp for nothing. In 2017 we'd won 3 from 6 grand finals. And I'm not surely they will properly contend for a flag for years, if lucky.

I think we're beginning to realise we're a rung below even Richmond, let alone North, who have overtaken Melbourne now. The ladder position, % and key stats don't lie. Saturday's game was the most non competitive I've seen us for some time, allowing for the outs we have. Not surprised we had the lowest contested possies since they've been keeping stats. This is dire stuff, we're still in that canyon we were in 22-23. Carlton moved the ball as if they were the only team out there, it was as staggering as it was aggravating, but after a point you stop caring.

Wouldn't surprise me if we don't win all year, but my optimistic prediction is we'll win 2 or 3. So we'll have regressed from last season. But at least the kids are developing. It'll be at least 3 years imo before we even get out of bottom four sadly, but let's hope it'll be worth the wait.

Yes, we've had a great run for most of the Eagles' existence and there are supporters overall worse off than we are. Imagine supporting St Kilda (1 flag in a century and a half, only those in their mid 60s or older have any memory of it). Given the understandable gloom and doom I thought it worth pointing out that it could be worse. We're going to have a decade-long premiership hangover rather than a similar or longer stint near the bottom after finishing runners up or losing a prelim.

Worst part of being a St Kilda fan is not just the long drought, but repeatedly choking in grand finals. In 1971, 1997 and 2009 they led at 3qt and lost, in 2010 they drew, can't get any closer than that. So close yet so far. Feels like theyre cursed. As Eagles supporters don't know if we can imagine that level of loyalty.

In a way, if you're not contending for a flag or building towards it does it matter if you finish 2nd or 18th? Course it's about giving yourself opportunities, but if say we can be competitive for a flag in 2030, 12 years after our last flag, it won't be that bad. Just hard to sit through this week after week year after year.

Yep, numbness/realisation that nothing we can do short term will make a diddly squat of difference; has well and truly kicked in.

24 hours since my last critical post and moving on I feel at ease with the world.

My joy until draft day, will be wins that don't take us above stone motherless last, Carlton going on a run that takes them to 4th (one above the Hawks) and Flagmantle being derailed in a heartbreak finals loss at home due to what the AFL comes out and declares, is an incorrect umpiring decision.

The latter disclosure triggering an outpouring of Freo fan vitriol towards Margetts......... even though he retired 3 years ago!

We were given 1st row seats to life this year without Yeo, McGovern, Barrass and Darling:

It can't be a surprise to any of us really. The writing was on the wall for a long time when you looked at how badly our WAFL side was being pummeled each week for years.

You are completely correct, but at this point in time, stating these (facts) are just shouting into the void - it simply won’t register.

We have never known true suffering as WCE supporters until now. We would be absolutely laughed off quite a few club boards on this site if we were to go looking for sympathy about how bad we are.

After our previous down times (2000 - 2001 and 2008 - 2010) were back in a Grand Final within 5 years. Clearly such a relatively quick turnaround is looking unlikely this time. It is now the fourth year of sustained “badness” and there is more to come. The only way out of it is hard work from the club, a clear and defined plan and patience and understanding from us as supporters.

I’m encouraged by the changes made over the past few years and that we are seeing an actual shift in the onfield demographic. As we have seen… it is going to lead to some more pain, but getting games into all of these young players is the only way - they won’t all make it but we simply have to find as many as possible who will.

At some point people will need to make a decision as to whether or not they want to keep engaging or if it is all too hard and give it away. No-one is forcing you to watch, go to games etc 🤷‍♂️

Sermon over lol.
