MELBOURNE football manager Chris Connolly says the club enquired about Lions superstar Jonathan Brown but was told "no thanks".

The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the year, and interest has bubbled along all year about the chance for the Victorian teams to lure him home.

So far, Collingwood is the only club to have put a concrete offer in front of the triple premiership player, but Connolly Confirmed that the Demons had a crack.

"We contacted Jonathan Brown's manager and we said to his manager Glenn Warry: 'We're interested, can you tell [us] what it's all about?'," Connolly said.

"He got back to us and said: 'He has no interest in playing with the Melbourne Football Club'. And we said: 'That's fine'. All we want to know is black and white where we stand."

Connolly also discussed how impressed he was with promising youngsters Cale Morton and Colin Garland and how difficult it was to make the decision to trade 2005 best-an

Very Interesting There

Story Here

to be honest i think the pies are more in need of midfielders that a KP forward.

you'd have to give up a fair bit to get JB, i hope for your sake you dont get him on 5m for 5 years.

I would love to See Browny in the B/W next year with our Midfield and what we would have to give up (Thomas or Pend) he would not get the ball

i personally think it's rubbish.

just another journo presenting their own statement as fact without any source.

If he knows we've definitly made an offer than that would warrant a story on its own and he would have sources.

If we have offered him a contract,(and i think we have) and he decides to come to us at the expense of a young gun or two, this will be another catastrophic tale in the history, which by the way has been tarnished by decisions and non decisions which have absolutely left the Club and it`s loyal supporters with a ride of sinking with the titanic once again.
Go for KERR. Ffs.

Can't wait for Brown to sign with Brisbane so I can give a sigh of relief.

We would have to give up far too much for him. Brown isn't the answer, just look at the team he is in at the moment, they have a far better midfield than us and he has Bradshaw a far better forward than we have to support him and relieve pressure from him and yet Brisbane is not an unstoppable force.

Brown won't win us a premiership and neither would Kerr

Agree 100%, Ickirus. All this talk about J Brown is making me nervous.

I'd rather Brown than Kerr. At least Brown isn't a goose. Maybe Anthony is closer to the end than we all think. Brown out of the goalsquare would be pretty handy.

We don't have any forwards Didak - gone, Rocca finished, Medhurst a maybe

Brown gives the club a A+ leader- Pendles & Thomas will walk taller , Thomas might become less of a lair and be more consistent.

Brown is a great leader and Burnsie is having less impact recently. Brown will bring premiership know how to a club which has won 1 flag in 50 years.
We need him

You're getting more than a star CHF though with Brown, you're getting strong LEADERSHIP which is arguably more pressing at this point than the midfield...

Worth a punt. :)

Shouldn't the thread title have a question mark on the end?

Or have I missed an announcement from the Club?

We have plenty of forwards coming through in Reid, Dawes, Rusling and even Anthony.

You don't get the fact that we have one of the worst midfields in the AFL, putting Brown in our team won't just magically win us a premiership, Brisbane has a better forward line and better midfield than us and they aren't magically winning a premiership just because they have Brown.

We need a A class midfield to win the premiership, something we havn't had for a very very long time

There isn't that many to go around, I would love one or two star midfielders as well but the fact is star midfielders without significant baggage don't come around that often through trades... clubs hang onto them for dear life.

Kerr would be getting a different flavoured Didak, and I don't we will get him because from what Worsfold says they don't want him to go, we'd be fools not to at least investigate the potential of Brown donning our guernsey because he is A+ in every facet, most notably he's the best leader in the comp now.

I dont think we'd release a press statement about it. I would think we have offered him a deal, given its come from a few different sources.

A couple of interesting rumours-
Apparently Stephen Icke was overheard telling another Carlton identity that as much as they would love Brown, he is definitely staying in Brisbane. His manager is only taking offers from other clubs to ensure he gets the best deal from Brisbane. As for Kerr, apparently Icke believes they are in the box seat to get him and he is definitely wanting to be at Carlton with his best mate Judd next year. The only hurdle they fear is how much hard ball West Coast are likely to play. They hope Andrew Walker and a first round draft pick may do the trick.

The second rumour is that apparently 2 Carlton players(fringe players but close to senior selection-I was not given their names) were recently caught, a little worse for wear, ducking down a side street to avoid a booze bus. The copper who caught them was apparently a Richmond supporter and gave the 2 a warning in sympathy of his Carlton supporting brother in law

As I say , they are only rumours and I have no proof that the source of these stories is dependable or not.

If Jonathon Brown lands at collingwood you can safely say all this off field bull sh*t that has been happening will no longer occur. Imagine Heater and Dids having to answer to Brownie...... But Brown just seems to me to be a one club player no matter what the money is!

Sounds like bollocks... if a cop catches anyone drink driving they show no mercy.

Judd and Kerr being best mates is news to me. Carlton clutching at straws.

As much as i agree that we need to get midfielders, i'd love to have brown at the club!!

If big Browney is avaliable we couldn't knock him back regardless if we need midfielders. We're screaming out for some leadership and balls, plus Rocca is just about done. What a replacement.

Judd and Kerr shared a house in Perth during Judd's entire career in Perth. They are good mates, it is well known. Kerr was recently on one of the Sunday footy shows talking about how Judd was a mate and after seeing his living quarters in Prahran, he would not mind a bit of that ect. ect
