Weekend GM Draftroom - Now open

So what's the go with Free Agents..?
If a player is on say, $12m, $18m, $18m, do we then make bids say something like $8m, $12m, $12m and th highest bid gets the player?

Yeah, you could offer Shaq a peanut butter sandwhich and if that's the best offer he got he's yours. Actually the min is $500k but you get my drift.

Plus, like Billy and D2T have suggested, you can make conditional bids, so if your first preference goes elsewhere the bid on your second preference kicks in. But if your first preference takes your offer your second preference is cancelled. This hasn't been written into the rules yet, but I'll do so today or tomorrow.

Remaining draft picks

ECU (yeah mate, you make it)
Mark
Raff
Billy
smashh
Rocco (Sign up on ESPN dude, then I can input the rosters)

Here to pick for ECU - Speights is his pick.

You're up GM.

I vote for no Conditional bids. It's a lame idea. We should all be able to do the math and prioritize what players we want to take a risk on. This wishy-washy make two bids at the same time, one of which is a "back-up" bid, is total bs.

Oh, and the Suns pick Brandon Rush.
Damn, I thought he was already taken when I picked Rudy freakin' Fernandez .

Anyways, nice pick...

Edit: As far as conditional bids go, I'd lean towards disallowing them as dmin suggested.
It'd make things easier on the GM and more challenging for the owners - making us more accountable in terms of cap management, which I'd say is a good thing.

The idea of the conditional bids is too avoid the situation where you want a PG but if you make one bid you'll very possibly miss out, whereas if you make a number of bids you end up with half a roster of them. This way you're guaranteed one max, if that's all you want, so ie. once you get Jarret Jack you pull your offer for Sebastien Telfair. Don't forget the bids are all private, PM'ed to Agent Smith, so noone will know what anyone else is up to anyhow.

But perhaps we should have a practice run before we decide to go ahead with it or not. I think it'll work fine, although if bids were open auction it would be chaotic, not denying that.

Makes perfect sense to me. Would be ridiculous if i had 10 million under my salary cap and i made an offer of that 10 million to each of the 3 players and it was the highest bid for each i would win all 3. In the real world, one would accept the offer and i would pull the other 2 offers!

To end up 20 million over your cap is MADNESS!

Agreed. Also, if we had a month before the season and someone was over the cap, you could trade out of it.

We'd have less than a day to get under the cap if someone went over. Thats just not enough time.

At least for the preseason I think it's essential that people can rank their preferences and not go over the cap.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have announced today that they have waived recently drafted third round rookie, Dante Cunningham.

The same message has been posted on the Weekend GM website.

That's probably a good idea to put it in a preference list in one msg or else the GM could have a ton of bids to get through and it could get messy.

This is how I'm going to do it. Hopefully it's not too complicated.

Bench spot #4 (I want only one player from this list)
Preference 1. Player X ($$$) + years of contract
Preference 2. Player Y ($$$) + years on contract
Preference 3. Player Z ($$$) + years on contract
And so on.

Bench spot #5 (I want only one player from this list)
Preference 1. Player X ($$$) + years of contract
Preference 2. Player Y ($$$) + years on contract
Preference 3. Player Z ($$$) + years on contract
and so on.

Make sure Bench 4 and 5 both totals less then the salary cap.

Thoughts?

Yeah that's exactly what I was going to do as well.

Like someone said earlier, if we were still 2-3 weeks away from the first game we could do it without all of these preference lists, but we are tight for time and some of us will want 3 more players yet.

I like the idea, but I want to run a quick trial first to see if it'd work as we envision.

Send me some fake offers, just PM them to me here in big footy. Once I've got four or five PM's I'll lay them out and we'll see how it unfolds.

Team Options

1.15 - A contract's final year (only) can be made a team option by adding $1m to every year of the contract.

1.16 - The option does not add value to the offer, nor does it contribute towards the min or max salary amounts.

ie. $6m, $6m, $6m, $6m, = $7m, $7m, $7m, $7m

Question as i am a little confused about the above,

I want to offer player X a contract worth 15 million over 3 years with a team option included in the final year, what would the year figures be?

Is it just 5m, 5m, 5m?

So, I've got my FA offers ready to go. I have 2 roster spots open so need to place preferences for each, along with the salary & years I am offering.
Is there a maximum amount of preferences per open roster space? Sorry if I've missed it. I hope not :P

Funny, I'd have chosen Fernandez first and was looking to grab him until I saw that you'd taken him. heh.
