No, but you are suggesting they bring in a body-builder as a coach. I'd like to see the players add a bit of bulk, especially the likes of Thomas, Reid, Dawes (legs), McCarthy, Dick, Keeffe, Wood, Fraser, Casey-Leigh, Goldsack etc. So we're on the same page with that one at least.

brisbane in 02-03 had so much of a physical advantage over their opponents.

i think essendon are very beefed up also.

im sick of this core sh**.. lol we need some old fashioned heavy muscle. Bucks perfect example.

Again, putting on weight as a body builder is a lot different to putting on weight as an AFL footballer. I'm not suggesting this 5'3" Minotaur fits in this category, but many body builders would struggle to run around the block. They're probably not also subject to stringent drug testing in the sense the AFL boys are with ASADA.

im notsaying we should become a team of bodybuilders.. it is not possible.. however what i am saying is that many of our team are 6-12 lighter than they should be.. and having seen sam ioannidis in action and the results of many of his subjucts (the majority who are juice free and range from post workers to professional fighters- these guys require super tanks too) i just think somebody like him could come into our club and help complement the aerobic side of training.. what could we lose?

would love to see L.franklin play on n.brown after this kid develops into a 105kilo monster..

I think we look too short at times rather than too small.

Take Lockyer for example, he looks tiny out there, as does Davis.

DO you remember the tackle that Tarkyn laid on Tom Hawkins in Rd 8? Brought him to the ground with barely a struggle. Don't let size fool you.

That's ridiculous. As TRS said, AFL is an endurance sport and anyone putting on that sort of weight would find their endurance severely compromised.

Yes, we need to get stronger as a team, but that should come through an emphasis on drafting players with a solid frame and the phasing out of older guys like Johnson/Lockyer/Fraser/O'Bree etc...who aren't exactly physically imposing.

In another thread not so long ago, I made the argument that our recruiting staff has not paid enough attention to a player's frame when drafting them, and I still believe that to be true.

Rocca is right around that weight. Would you like to see him play on Franklin? Brown's agility gets exposed enough as it is, personally I'd like to see him drop 2-3 kg.

Sprinters are a completely inappropriate comparison though, AFL is an endurance sport.

Speed, endurance and strength actually - all absolutely necessary and all can be developed together. Provided, of course, you have the right fitness and weights coaches. We don't. Body shape is a cop-out - naturally-thin players still have the potential to massively develop their power-to-weight ratio.

Like others, I'm sick of the ease with which so many of our players are thrown out of the way. If the Club doesn't address the issue, it's in denial.

Oh, and take a quick look at Footscray. Their major emphasis over the last off-season was on building up their players' strength. Hasn't hurt their endurance or speed as far as I can see.

ridiculous is it? uve obviously never heard of cross training.. its a new concept u should look it up...

as fpr pebs and brown theyre toatlly different.. for one brown is agile- rocca never was i played against him as a 16 y.o- and secondly id guess that brown would be 95 kilos already.. in 3 or so years as he gradually puts on size his body adapts.. he would lose hardly any speed- although could improve his sprinting capabilites- and his agility would remain similar...

at the end of the day the physiques at collingwood, mainly the midfielders, are more suited to soccer.. these guys dont have the bulk/strenght through their shoulders girdles and legs to crash thru/ and crush while being tackled/ tackling..

its my opinion.. having seen many athletes and various forms of training thru my years that is my opinion... if u dont agree.. so be it.. but at the end of the day untill we get that 6-12 weight increase (whcih is not a huge amount over a 3 year periods we will get bullied around by the teams that have the players in that weight range..
