Good selection on the basis of building club culture and strong leadership.
Average selection on the basis of pure talent.
As a depth player, he provides competitiveness for spots, contributes to a positive club atmosphere, and forces those above him to keep playing hard.
That's his purpose (along with filling in for an injury)... Any significant number of games played would be a bonus but not expected. For a 3rd round rookie pick, he'll contribute more to Richmond than 3rd round rookie picks will contribute to any other club - so by comparison we beat our opposition in a small safe draft win.

So happy for Matty to be getting another chance at AFL level. He is a terrific footballer and is tough as nails. The only reason he was delisted by Port was because he is too slow in certain situations at AFL level. If he plays in the VFL he will tear that league a new one.

Our VFL team would be a lock now for finals which is great for our kids IMO. Matt will do his role well in the VFL and be a good example come game day to our kids.
