Happy he gets his chance. Provides a bit of extra cover in area we lacked and I think surprised a few (myself included) with his performance yesterday albeit in a scratchie.

Excited to see how he goes this year. Welcome officially to the best club in the land Sandy!

Really raced towards the finish line at the end there. Hope his career stays on track, with few pit stops along the way. He's climbed the mountain, its all down the straight from here. Glad we didn't have to let his tyres down, that would have been a drag. Time to kick his career into gear. No more holden onto the past. Time to look ford, not backward. Looks like a driven young man.

With all of that out of the way, Welcome aboard, Sandy.

After spending almost the entire preseason training at the club with no guarantee of a list spot, Sandy Brock has been rewarded with a place on the rookie list as a SSP signing

Tall defender with a thumping left foot kick, his performance in the match sim vs Richmond would have him in contention with Harry Edwards for a spot in the best 22 and a potential R1 debut

Good luck Sandy and welcome to the club

Something I prepared earlier

Does he take the #41 jumper vacated by Maric moving to #23 and take the locker between fellow KPD options , Callum Jamieson and Harry Edwards

Or stay with the #45 he’s been training in most of the preseason

Keen for this bloke, we were always going to pick up a KPD but glad we picked up one with a lot of upside, has the age balance to play now and not be totally out of his depth but still young enough that there's a bit to unearth and could be more than a stopgap. Exactly the right fit IMO.

Also not too fussed about his one-sidedness, usually having no opposite foot is a personal pet peeve but key defender is probably that one spot that matters least, you're doing the least wheeling around and picking off quick options in congestion. Far more important to have a long kick to be able to clear it, and a massive bonus to have a great kick even on only one side if you're delivering mostly from intercept marks or marks from kickins. His raking left should be a really good point of difference in this regard.

Darren Glass had NO FEET, and he turned out alright for a KPD.

Oh absolutely he was an all-time legend.

I was more just highlighting that in discussion of qualities for an preseason trainon player delisted by Gold Coast, the one-sidedness of his kicking isn't an issue for me given his position and the skill of kick on his left.

Will Brock get anywhere near as elite as Glass in the 1-1 nullifying? Confident in saying absolutely not, Glass was as good as anyone I've seen in that regard.

But if you're not going to be Darren Glass at nullifying, best have your own weapons. Am excited for Brock to prove himself in his own right - especially since none of Ginbey, Baker or Duggan as our top smalls have elite footskills. We may need to strangely rely in our talks (Gov, Maric, Brock) to pick their way through that first clearing kick before we go into full chaos offence mode.

Was pretty sceptical on him earlier in preseason based on his light frame and his career pathway but thought he looked very promising on Monday.

Seems to read the play well and rightly has confidence in his kicking. Once he builds the upper body strength he could be a real asset to the team.

Certainly passed the eye test and has a great mentor (among many others) who had a similar build, kick and style in Harry Taylor.
