Another Messiah

Nothing more than a qualified football person. Who is worshipping him as the person to win us flags?

If we appoint a nobody, people are underwhelmed. Appoint someone who has achieved something, and we have a messiah complex.

Seems like there is no way we can go to please everyone.

If I was a person of substantial means, I would pay a hefty sum to hear the thoughts of Graham on where we’re at and why we are where we are. Would be fascinating. He’s come from Hawthorn and Collingwood so he’ll have a pretty good idea what is lacking.

I’m more excited to see the moves he makes at the end of the season than I am to watch the same rubbish week to week until the end of August.

Can’t wait for this guy to start making changes…hopefully todays rumour is true and we have a good clean out
I’m cautiously hopeful and hope he lives up to the hype. I’m sure Brian Cook was also a welcome acquisition a couple of years ago, but in reality he’s had little impact on improving our player development or recruitment.

What do we think Graham Wright is realistically going to achieve?

Another Messiah

Don’t forget we’ve also got two rookies, Smith and Walker, who are going to completely transform us into a premiership winning juggernaut.
Agree. :thumbsu:

You can add whatever top picks we get for TdK, Walsh and Harry trades - you know cause that is all that matters…..

The 'entitled' Culture would be a good start

I’d say cook has tried to provide stability and probably had a hand in getting wright to the club.

Ie working at a high level to fix our footy department by bringing one of the best in the business.

I’m thinking Wright will help sort out tge footy department so as a whole we function better…HC assistants list management fitness high performance etc…

IMO it all comes down to good management…just as it does with any organisation.

There is obviously something the better clubs are doing and I’m hoping thru wright we learn and start implementing those things as well.

How do we arrange a quiet catch up with G. Wright?

A clandestine meet, over coffee, with 100,000 members.

Love to hear his thoughts.

I’d love to see something now, a review in to the list management team, the coaching staff or something else. If the LM team has been a mess, we need to try ewctify something now, another wasted trade/draft period sets us back even further.

It can't be done in a day. What Cook has done is provide stability and cohesion of all the various departments of the footy club.
With that stability and environment for everyone to be able to perform to their best you then see genuinely who is suceeding and what needs fixing / replacement.

Wright will be taking over the reigns with the club functioning properly and can just get to work.

I think the internal kaos that the club was in and the work Cook has done behind closed doors will not be appreciated / understood to its fullest extent from the outside looking in from what I've heard.

You could flip that on it head though, if we had a decision maker not a stabiliser in 2023 would we be in a better or worse spot now?

When Cook was on the cards we should have delayed our coaching process. He should have been apart of the whole process not just providing a tick off of the decision that was already made.

We need a great decision maker at the club to make impactful and key decisions. Not create stability around decisions they never made.

The Club was in such a mess in 2021 that it realistically was going to take years to get things right again.
Cook provided that off field stability we really needed back then, and has taken us to the next level off field (sponsors, membership, facilities, finances). That was the first step.
The next step which Wroght will oversee, is to make the changes that need to be made to take us to that next step football wise on the field (recruiting, head of footy, coaches). His track record at the Hawks and the Filth give me cause for optimism that he’ll get things right.

You can't make informed decisions until you can see things working in a normal state. We have witnessed that now and your decision maker (Wright) is now coming in with a very clear mandate and clear line of sight as to were the issues sit.

Agree.

Just wish the club, knowing they were going after Cook, waited until his appointment to start the coaching appointment.

Then his whole stability mantra holds more weight in our circumstance imo and not just for the sake of it. We may not be in the situation we are in now.
