Revisionist? I've been going on about this sort of thing for four years warning of this very things. Suprise suprise, here we are. This is revisionist nonsense. Ed had every right to be in the side, but so did Dow, playing in vastly different roles.
Fisher was and remains crap in defence because he gets exploited by direct opponents. Bottom of the barrell football team in North, and he's barely played this year after being figured out in round 1. That was a great trade for us.
Fisher happily throws his body in at a stoppage, but avoids it like the plague in terms of aerial contests, and can't keep up on the outside so he just winds up being a seagull there. Was a terrible pick unless we had a system for a small clearance mid.
Penny has dropped for the North coaching staff too, who are back to the drawing board in terms of figuring out where to play him.
Cuningham just couldn't stay fit, but perhaps part of the issue earlier on was how we flog our players. He's now barely appearing for the Dogs in the VFL, and barely impacting on top of that.
Ed Was cooked. We were forced to play Dow that season and he was good, proved me right despite Voss not rating him. Ed played one season too long. He didn't have the right to be in the side he was done two years prior. For everyone bagging Docherty currently, Ed was three times as bad.
Fisher was good in our side, end of story. Yes, in a crap side he is crap, he was what that team at the time needed. Taking him out meant Saad was taken out of the game and we had no run and got slaughtered by a side with running half backs. Going in with one was dumb. We liteally had a season defining game towards the end of the 2023 season against Melbourne who were a top side, Dow was good, blind freddy could see he added blance and pace to the midfield. Fisher was one of the best that night, got a lot of the ball, run and carry, accurate kicking all the qualities we desperately needed. Both players promptly dropped for players who were terrible. I bet if you put Nick Daicos in North's backline he would struggle.
Cuningham was fit at the time, he was our best defensive half forwards. Owies was also one of our better defensive forwards. Guess what happened against the Lions? Their half backs slaughtered us. They exploited us for being too slow in the middle.
If Voss had of selected the side properly and did choke and fall in love with unfit out of form big bodies, we would not have had to rely on inaccurate kicking from Sydney and Melbourne, we would have beaten both on our merits. We would have been 50/50 with Brisbane to get through that preliminary final.
I firmly believe a better coach could have got us into the 2023 grand final. No way were we winning it but that is what I believe.
Obsession with big bodies and accumulators. Not rating pace and kicking. This is how he has F***ed the list. Years of selecting the team like this has defined how we play the game and our game plan, which as we all know is well and truely f***ed. Many of the players would know this and this is why he has probably lost them.
FMD he can't coach! Even when we had some success he was making mistakes! He's been the problem the whole time. Even when we have done well I an adament we could have done better.
I like Voss, I wish he was the one but his vision of the game is crap, he's a poor tactician and we have done him no favours with the second rate coaching group we have put around him.
