Would be pretty surprised if we see him this year. Still has a lot to learn and would still be behind a few others vying it at BHH.

Really impressed with him early on though in his footy career.

Can anyone recall an NRL/Rugby convert coming across to the AFL and kicking like this in their first year?

This is freakish.

So is kicking 3 goals in the BHH seniors in his first year.

He used to be in the Suns academy before he joined the Storm. So not completely new to the game.

He's definitely miles above the norm on all counts. The first time his uncle said he grew up playing footy I figured I'd heard that before, and it would turn out to be a few U14 games.

But it's obviously no joke.

That check side goal from so deep in the pocket is something a decent chunk of our side couldn't pull off consistently.

More importantly he's almost raising his arm to knock on the door for a senior game not long after the NRL finished cleaning out his locker....

Matt was playing Aussie Rules regularly (as well as rugby) up until age 17. Then chose rugby for 3 years. Now back to footy.

So aside from those 3 years, that’s his entire childhood (into young adulthood) playing both codes.

His kick to Will McCabe in the first quarter was what Denis Cometti used to call centre metre perfect. A delightful pass on the run that cleared the Gold Coast player and led to a Hawthorn goal. Loving his development in such a short period of time.

Is already significantly better than he was in pre-season. Consistently looks dangerous near the ball. Very strong (as you'd expect) but also shows good agility, quick hands and (importantly) good vision. If he keeps up this rate of improvement, he will be pushing seniors before the end of this season, even with his current lack of endurance.
