Where does Sharrod sit in big picture of the Pies?
I,for one ,reckon he has huge part to play.
What do we do if some other teams realises this guys potential and throws big money at him?
Do we let him let him go or do we keep him?
He would be a starting mid in most,if not,all teams in the comp.
Thoughts???

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

On Friday Night, in the coaches box.:p

If GWS (or any other club) were to offer him a Callan Ward like sum (about twice what he's worth) then we would lose Sharrod.

We will offer the likes of him, Wood, Goldsack contracts that are probably comparable to what they are on now, and if they want to leave, they will be able to.

We can't keep everyone, but I'm hoping he stays and redeems himself, he has the talent.

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

He is Expandable at the moment but if he has a Big Season that he might not be.

We will offer a Contract we think he is worth and it should be take it or leave

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

I think he's bloody fantastic when he wants to be. Seems disinterested at times, and bored at other times. Wish he'd just put the commitment in, but so often the most naturally talented don't get the best out of themselves until they've been kicked in the arse hard enough. Hopefully that's the case with Shaz.

Who does everyone think is the better long term prospect, Wellingham or Beams?

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

Sharrod is a bloke who could get squeeze out if he is not careful he has had a few injury worries at times and also a few other off the field issues as well.

I must admit I get a bit frustrated with him he always looks to me as he is going at 95% of capacity,I really think if he upped it he could be an A grader
but it is up to him,I don,t think Buckley will accept anything but 100% effort so like I said it is up to him.

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

Interesting question, I reckon Sharrod is a little at the crossroads in his development.

Been a very big fan for ever, but I think last year was pretty disappointing and it's not a great career move to have consecutive ordinary years.

He has all the skills required, but from afar, you wonder if he has the same commitment as most other best 25 players.

How good would he be if he had Luke Ball's commitment for instance.

Really hope he gives it 100%, he would add another dimension to us and IMO he was one of the main differences between 2010 and 2011 ( along with Didak specifically and team injuries in general )

BEAMS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Wellingham.

Over the long term. Not really having a go at Sharrod here, more of a love for what Beams has done in such a short time. Beams home and away record is astounding, if he can transfer that to the finals (injury buggered him last year) he could be a top 5 player at the club.

Sharrod will never have the consistency of performance that Beams has IMO.

Beams i would say was already a better player towards the end of 2011 (not in finals though). Beams by far, people massivly overrate wellingham because of ONE game against melbourne. Even medium players have great games every now and then, i think wellinghams just going to be a mid level player his whole career.

Mate that is a very good comparison between Beams and Wellingham as both of them really look to me like blokes who have bit up their sleeves as far as effort goes and if both worked harder they could reach high level players and make us stronger.

My perception of those 2 is that they both give an impression of a lack of effort and commitment, both Daisy and Pendles are only 1 or 2 years older than them but are far more professional than either Beams and Wellingham.

They both frustrate me because they could both be so much better than they are.

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

I pretty much agree with all the opinions here.It all comes down to committment for sharrod. Massive year from especially with bucks as coach. Bucks wont tolerate blokes who dont put in and i have heard nathan has had his doubts over sharrods work ethic in the past.

Someone mentioned beams and i also heard a whisper that bucks is not impressed with some of beams off fiels antics.

Sorry to sound like a rumour monger but i have hopes that both sharrod and dayne fulfill their potential at the pies

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

Wellingham is a gun when he's on, but seems to pick up a lot of niggles and perhaps that's why he struggles with consistency. So far in his career he's shown that he can be a game changer but nowhere often enough. I'd love to see him become a consistent player but at this stage he is tradable and he wouldn't be sorely missed.

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

One point i should add is that we should not immediately write off sharrod as he may be a late maturer like swan, taz and bj. I would assume all 3 of these players have been written off by many at some stage

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

He could be a Late Mature but can we keep him with so Many Players out of Contract and who Want it more than Sharrod

Wellingham is very effective for us around stoppages... consistently. In fact I'd say he is close to our best stoppage player [not the best, close to it though]. He needs to become more consistent with his work around the ground, and put in some hard yards like Dale Thomas does. Then he will become a star of the comp.

Agree with that, at current output I think Beams is definitely the bigger contributor. I just really like Wellingham's class and flair on the outer, definitely reminds me of Pendlebury tbh. I think we haven't seen the best out of either as well, and as opposed to some people here, I think losing both or either would be devastating for the club. Wellers, Beams and Steele are our future core.

I think Wellers will be the better player at the end of his career if he stops being a lazy prick and gets a little bit of a Luke Ball work ethic about him. Just too much raw talent to be wasted if he doesn't.

I dont think any pies supporters want to see wellers, beams or sidey leave but u have to factor in the salary and the youth in our team. If we have to keep cloke, reid, pendles, thomas we may to have lose some players and i know who i would rather keep as the future of our club. Hopefully we dont lose too many

Ummmmmmmmmm

BEAMS.
If he gets back in to the team and stays fit, he will be regarded as an elite midfielder by the end of this year. Smokey for all Australian if he get s fit.

Beams, Steele and Faz have the greatest potential of the under 22's

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

I rate Wellingham way more than Beams, he is a freak. I would be more than happy to lose Beams in order to keep Wellingham. Beams is also much more uninterested at times than Sharrod and as a fan I get really angry when I see it from him because he has alot of talent. Don't think he has more talent them Shazza though.

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

They will give him this year to prove himself and offer him a contract with behavioural conditions to it that he will most likely accept unless he plays an absolute blinder that has GWS throwing money at him.

Personally, I think he will be the sacrifice that keeps Cloke and Reid at the club, while also being the smokescreen that Collingwood uses to hide the unspoken agreement Eddie has with Gubby.

"See! GWS were targeting our players, they took a premiership midfielder!!!"

Re: Wellingham. Where does he sit??

Wellingham has the ability to turn a match in a few minutes.

Not sure if I've seen Beams do it, and Sidebottom rarely, though has been brilliant on the biggest of stages.

I see the Pies having a great bunch of players, and stuff the rest of the comp, we want to keep them all.

Wellingham I believe with a bit more workrate or a good run with injuries (which would facilitate that extra running) has the ability to be as good at the stoppages as Ablett, he's that clean and smart.

His disposal is slightly worse than elite, but still serviceable, and 99 times out of 100 he goes when it's his turn, which is what I expect from a top player.

His ability to hit a pack with speed and drill a goal in a boundary throw in set play is one that very few in the competition have demonstrated as regularly.

I reckon he's got the goods, would love to see him demonstrate them, because he's got more talent than a similar type of player at Geelong - Allen Christensen - and it would be great to see him prove it regularly on the big stage.

Have I read on this forum that Wellingham is smart? That he is not.
One of his biggest problems is that he doesn't know where to go to get the ball. He is a 20 possesion player, Beams is a 30 possesion player.
The only reason people think Wellingham is so great is because he has genuine speed and can hit the stoppages and run away.
He has very clean hands but his disposal is ordinary. Kicking especially ordinary.
I realise that to be a big force this year we need guys like Wellingham to go to another level, but I don't see it happening.
Beams is on a whole other level. He is a quality young, goalkicking midfielder with great skills, but he isn't that quick.

I still get annoyed when I think of Sharrods horrible effort to spoil Hodge in the last quarter of the prelim. I think a lot of his deficiency's are glossed over by us fans because at times he looks brilliant. However I do like his hardness at the ground ball and his tackling is good too. Would love to see him become our legitimate tagger. Would be really dangerous the other way.

I wouldnt be to phased if wellingham had to be squeezed out as a result of the big money being offered to our current stars, after some of his efforts in last years finals series i was really disappointed, his attitude, overall demeanour and general poor performance didnt seem up to scratch, if GWS want to throw big money at him and that allows us to keep the likes of Cloke, Reid, Sidebottom; then i think most pies fans including myself would take that!
