That’s great for development though. Our young rucks need to be ready, we are in a spot of bother if Cameron departs at years end.
thats right, we cant let Cox interfere with the development of Smit and Steene. Cox would be there to support them though when they need it.

First-year small forward William Hayes was a standout with three goals from 14 disposals as the Magpies lost a heartbreaker by one point after the siren.

Fellow forward Charlie West, also in his first season, kicked two majors, while ruck Oscar Steene also had two goals along with 19 hitouts.

After coming on late as the substitute in Thursday night's AFL match, Ed Allan managed 23 touches to go with three marks and three tackles, while youngster Tew Jiath had 22 disposals.

Joel Cochran (18 and six marks) and Finlay Macrae (17) were also busy, while Jakob Ryan, Harry DeMattia and Oleg Markov each had 16 touches.

Wil Parker and Iliro Smit were quieter with 13 and six disposals, respectively.

I went and saw this match and was gutted for the boys to lose it like that, but they played a very solid team, lest we forget, and last time we played they beat us convincing, i believe. Our new players have really improved us.
It was very hot conditions and that game was played at a pretty quick pace, so they left everything out on the field.
After the game i got Oleg's autograph on my '23 Prem. poster, so was super chuffed. As he signed it he smiled and said, "Ah, the first of many." 🤣 He is so, so postive - when i said bad luck about the result, he immediately just smiled and said "We'll get em next time." To have an experienced guy like that on the team is so good.

We actually beat them in melb last time we played. But last easter, we just lost by a couple points. Joey Richards had kicked 6 goals.

But I do agree the new players have improved us. We're not always gonna win all games, and these vfl players, whilst are good, havent played a lot with us. Or with each other.

We lost that game at stoppage. Lots of them got a lot of linking ball around the ground, but we copped an absolute smashing at stoppage. That was where Ed was playing and he was struggling. The question with Ed at the moment is what role.

To be fair on the mids, fort just dominated. Not only on the taps but he roved the ball and won a lot of clearances himself. But I agree, Allan struggling with the contest stuff atm. Plenty of time to work on it.

Without Ned and sully our VFL midfield is lacking a lot of grunt

RE: Ed Allan

On a recent podcast, Will Day from the hawks, said that he struggled with a light frame during his junior footy and that he had put on 20kgs in the 4-5 years since he got drafted, which has helped him become the player he is today.

I think Ed needs to take a leaf out of his book.

Despite having elite height, agility and breakaway pace, I feel as though Ed rarely tests this out in game as he looks more concerned about avoiding contact alltogether because he doesn’t have any confidence he can excel/break tackles in contested situations.

Would be interested to know how much weight he has put on since he was drafted.

Watching part of this vfl replay, and goodness, sometimes it shouldn't be hard for these commentators to know who is playing and who isn't. In the space of two quarters, Dowling, Bennetts (injured) and Quaynor's names were mentioned lol None of whom were playing.

Time stamp 2:09:15 in the match replay. Does anyone else reckon we were incredibly unlucky not to get a 50m penalty that probably would have been enough for us to ice the game?

Surely you have to be penalised if you just throw the ball away even if Wil Parker wasn't looking? Or is that my one-eye talking?

What is HDM good at? I don’t see a single AFL trait when I watch him (albeit on limited occasions).
Without being to harsh on him I’m not sure. Draft profile said he has speed and good kicking. I haven’t seen this on display.

He’s started the season very slowly.. can’t find the ball on the wing and isn’t good at clearances.

Not sure there’s just a switch he can flick.

Compare that to the games I’ve seen from our recent draftees and I can already see afl traits with them after 3 games.

I think we need to start trading late teen picks for a couple later ones we seem to hit those better..

He's fast.

We shifted to a big focus on running ability for a couple of drafts.

I'd question what the footballing strengths are of all of HDM, Ryan and Allan.

Had very high hopes for Parker this season, but so far he just seems to be average at best, what are other, regular VFL watchers thoughts?
