I have been pretty suprised by this guy so far for usthis year. I knew his reputation was a good lead and mark man for his size, but he has been impressing doggie fans this year with his chashing , tackling, and particularly throwing his body on the line to create opportunites for his team mates.

Is that sort of thing something he for in Adelaide, or is it new?
 
I agree. His 1% efforts have been great. I really didn't expect it when we first got him, but have been very happy with his tackling and speed shown we he doesn't have the ball. It seems he has fitted into the group really well.

kicked something like 1 goal 5 in our draw against richmond. 3 of those were nearly identical - 40m out on a 40 degree angle in the right pocket. Shot slides to the right of the near post...
 
I think Welsh is a good player and his defensive work was one of his main assets. I still think it was a win/win for him and us. I think for us to move forward and develop our list it was time for him to move.

Been the opposite at the dogs. When others have been held he's popped up for a couple.

I'm surprised at how agile he is. I always thought of him as a lead out, mark, kick, forward. But he actually moves quite well.
 
The reason we moved him on was that he was a handy player who'd probably still be in our best 22 if he stayed but he was getting on a bit. He only has maybe a year or two left and then be moved on. We needed to inject some youth into the side and it's been good to see Tippett really come one. Win/Win for both parties- Doggies have another experienced forward who'll take the responsibility off Johnson a bit while we have seen some youngsters flourish.

I think you'll find if you dig deep there were a couple of reasons other than age as to why he parted ways with AFC, good luck to him.

nonsense.

He was a very good player for us, though sometimes ineffective in adverse conditions. that's the nature of his style.

the 1%'ers have always been a feature of his game.
 
Welsh was always a very handy player for us, and he suffered really by the fact that we never had a bigger target up forward.

He is a guy that relies a fair bit on getting a full pre-season in. I always felt that the times he struggled for us was when he was not 100% fit.

When fit he's a very handy player, and normally a very reliable kick from a set shot.

Welsh was probably our best forward for a long time i think. I would have loved to have seen Welsh payed on half forward flank more, he had great mobility and was a great mark, his disposal by foot was also very good.
I would have been quite happy if he had stayed at the AFC, but he didn't and him leaving has fast tracked a few of our youngsters, so like everyone says a win win situation.
 
I still think he's more highly valued than he should be by some, perhaps because I saw more than the odd insipid, disinterested performance in the white shorts.

He did play some good footy for us, and when he stops being Fred Flinstone is a reliable kick at goal.

As I said in an earlier discussion - the proof of the pudding for the Bulldogs is in 2009. Adelaide were more than happy to sign him for this year, so him playing well now is no great surprise. If he's as good or better next year, the Bulldogs have done very well, and the club was wrong, and so was I.

No.

just no. the pudding was already done when we let a valuable player walk for nothing. For a mid-sized marking forward, he's been amongst the best in the league for years. We made all sorts of decisions at the end of the season last year, about where we were heading. fine. that included being prepared to let him go. Given where we've been this year, and how well we've done, I wonder if we'd have made the same decisions given another chance?

we've moved on, so has he and his new club seems to be doing great.
