For years it was Dusty, who took over from Cotch, who took over from Lids, who took over from Richo, who took over from Knights, who took over from Flea... yes there is probably some debate in there. What I want to know is who will assume that mantle from Tim (if he is our best current player). This isn't about best ever but current best/future best player at RFC.

My most likely pick is Lalor, but could it be Gibcus, could it be Cumming, could it be Smilie (once he gets through another 36 month conditioning block), or will it be Taj, or is it Seth or even someone we haven't drafted yet?

[Meteoric Rise]

There are three who could be completely outrageous talents just from the 2024 draft. Lalor, Hotton, Faull all had major injury interruptions to their seasons or pre-seasons in 2025. All seem fit this pre-season. Smillie we haven't even seen yet. And Cumming has some pretty big raps on him. Gibcus I still hold out hope he could be amongst the best 2-3 of key Defenders in the AFL within a couple of years.

Like the opening poster, gun to my head I say Lalor, just based on what he has shown so far and the expected improvement to come from a full pre-season. You know he is bloody good when he is a Richmond player and every opposition supporter is already acknowledging he is a very high class talent. Half of them still refuse to acknowledge how good Dusty actually was.
