bollinger got 8 fricken wickets in the match (should've been 10), in only his third match and turned the game for the aussies (who won the match)

gayle gets man of the match for a quick century. what good did it do his team? he should've stuck around, so what he made it off 70 balls, doesn't make a diference if he'd made it off 250.

nice m.o.m awarded by media hype and sympathy.

Couldn't agree more, down to the last sentence. :thumbsu:

Bollinger clearly deserved MOTM. But nah, lets give it to Gayle because his side fought so hard and he made a quick ton. Don't get me wrong, great hundred, but that alone certainly didn't mean he deserved MOTM honours.

i think it was just a way to make amends for the way the media treated him after the first game, he certainly did stick it up a few people.

What I found funny was that he didn't really get a single thing from winning it.

$3000 for his favourite charity and $3333 worth of credit that I'm not sure he'll be able to use.

He'll be playing for WA later this summer, so I suppose he could use it there.

Anyway, to carry on the "what a joke" theme:

What a joke that people get upset about individual awards in a team sport.

In anycase, if Pakistan's batting is alright they will wipe the smirk off Australia's faces.

That's an if.

Imagine if Taylor and Edwards were here...Windies would have won these last two tests.

Imagine if Hilfenhaus and Siddle were actually fit and firing - the series would've been far less competitive.

See, it works both ways.

Imagine what a full fit and firing Pakistan attack will do to Australia.

Well, we generally posted very large scores against WI, bar that collapse for 150 and that 5/212 or whatever it was.

So we don't know. Australia's batting lineup ain't NZ's (even though they can be as adept at collapsing once in a while).

Imagine if India were here - Australia would struggle to get 10 wickets a match, let alone 20.

We're not playing India, in case you haven't noticed. We'll probably be playing them in 2011/12, by which time Tendulkar will be 4 yrs older than he was before (if he hasn't retired by then) and Dravid and Laxman would probably have moved on. That leaves Sehwag - and who knows whether he will keep up his form. It is also unreasonable to expect him to carry a team like Tendulkar did throughout the 90's (particularly overseas).

Even if that isn't the case, India are likely to face the same situation that AUS did in 2006 - a bunch of retirements which foreshadows a decline. Their domestic competition is not particularly impressive, whilst patronage and other forms of corruption are quite widespread in both the BCCI and India in general. This may lead to incompetents being selected because they're from the right districts. Even if they do pick competent batsmen, they are unlikely to match up to Tendulkar, Dravid and even Laxman.

Their fast bowling stocks will look shaky by then, too. Sharma may or may not be playing international cricket, Khan's body will start becoming less reliable and Sreesanth - well, who knows?

Australia at the moment is at the same level the Windies are. Pakistan will show it.

Not true, actually. If it was, they would've taken a Test. Pakistan may well beat us (although a weakened TAS side isn't AUS), but that doesn't mean we're like the WI.

Put simply, your flawed arguments above were rebuked by many posters, so now you are criticizing and mocking the Australian team for things that haven't even happened yet.

I think he deserved both

1) Best with the bat across the series
2) Best with the bat in the third test - saved the Windies from an even bigger hurdle to climb.

Batting successfully is a better accolade than bowling successfully. Everyone wants to see flamboyance with the bat, rather than skill with the ball.

Couldn't disagree more. Batting performances are generally far more overrated than bowling performances, especially in the modern game with flat pitches, roped in boundaries, etc.

Many people, especially serious cricket fans, really appreciate a skillful, intimidating, or spirited spell of bowling just as much as a flurry of boundaries with the bat.

There is nothing as dull as a one sided contest where bat dominates ball.

$3300 free credit on 3 probably only costs $300 bucks.

Much like their $29 cap has $150 of calls or w/e.

Still - at least the $3000 is going to The Human Fund

I went to all five days of the match and the one thing I will always remember about this match was Chris Gayle's innings.

Sure, Ponting's injury and the Watson shenanigans was a standout, but that Chris Gayle innings was simply awesome and well deserving of MOTM honours. IMHO...
