Yes his 2005 & 2006 were terrific as a long running link CHF but mostly took the ball out in front on the lead.

I reckon he is the best kick for goal (by far) Swans have! and Mickey O is Obrien-esque as a foil and can even crumb!

I would play him Lockett-esque out of the square on a charge ... he gets it then most often a goal.

Would mean getting it into the forwardline quicker ( too beat those nasty teams what flood:D) nand a change of gameplan to take advantage of our quality ruckman.... play 7 man defence at all times and BBBH has permission to bulldoze the dill standing in the way!

Put LRT or Playfair (if any good) at CHF for whether just contest it and bring to ground or decoy especially at the small SCG!

Whadddya reckon?

i personally like this idea mostly because he is getting older and probs won't be as athletic anymore adn would provide a longer option for us would prefer r o keefe at chf leading up the ground to provide an option with of course we could have goodes resting in the forward line.....davis could provide option as well should eb a good dyear for us would like to see us keep our forward line open as well only 3 or 4 forwards down there.....for more space for them to lead into one leadign from 30 metres out two better shots at goal leading out wide (maybe davis and someone elce) adn big bad bustling wiht the forward line to himself to play around in

do the swans even play a set full forward?

i like to see davis as a smaller full forward playing close to the goal square as i believe he is easily the best shot for goal in the side. Hall is better suited to running around, he seems to need to get the ball a lot to keep confidence up. I wouldnt want to see him in wrestling one on one marking contests as he isnt always that good at them and has a problem with the in the back rule, i want to see him roaming the forward 50 and popping up further up the ground when need be.

wouldn,t davis be our best shot at goal, remember the 06GF davis 3 goals , hall 0,if he or bolton kick one goal between them we go back to back

That's something I'll like to more often, especially when Hall is down on form. At the very least, he's going to drag away the best defender into the goal square and open up space for the other forwards to lead into. One of the main problems of having Hall in a the hybrid role right now is that he really clots up a lot of space in the middle, and it makes life difficult for the other forwards to lead into a space that's in attacking position (and they end up leading more to the flanks).

When Hall is at FF, then we can rotate the likes of Magic, Davis and O'Keefe more as a traditional CHF, and if Davis gets a mark close to 50m arc, tell him to try for goal every time.

I like the idea in general. However, of late he always seems to be on the bad end of a free kick whenever he gets into a postion to wrestle or use his strength in a contest. The reasonable football fan inside me doesn't know whether or not it is a flaw in his style or poor umpiring, but the one eyed Swans fan in me knows that it is all the umpires' fault!! Either way, untill that irons itself out (if it ever does), I think Barry is best used on the lead (if he is at full fitness). Shame really...

They don't really, especially on the smaller SCG. Magic usually starts in the goalsquare and Bazz in between CHF and FF. He has a license to do as he pleases but he was quite resticted last year so we didn't see him cover as much ground as in previous years. With the introduction of playfair, it would be intersting to see how the they set up.

I thought Davis would be our elite goal-kicker too..

wire story this afternoon, and now on our much-maligned website, that davo is telling outsiders to "dismiss the swans at your peril" and he claims sydney's forwards are ready to make up for last year's poor goal tally
also, again, i think davo is hoping to get some time closer to the ball
i've always believed he has the skills, if he could get truly fit, to be a real star in midfield
but then, with his kicking skills, we'd miss a lot moving him away from goal

Roos admitted himself that he was the most naturally talented player in the side.

Right now, I'm imagining him with the work ethic and edication of Brett Kirk, the agility of Judd and the tackling arms of Crouch.

Stuff dreams are made of, right?

Yes ..Yes ...you're right:thumbsu:

But doesn't it ????? frustrate the hell out of you that he just for some reason doesn't get it often enough.?

Geesus I have had blu's edging on RED & WHITE cards here with some lovely young roomie groupies .. he just has to GET the footy!!!!!

Davis is not a strong mark... but the acid was put on him in 2006 GF and he was made a target and he stood up!.... I like him but he has to learn to break and lead then Swannies would be one step closer to a really functional forward line!...

Drop the celebration and ego .....just kick 70+ goals... then he can claim the title;)

Thanks all for your comments it seems "the makeover" is an attempt to resurrect BBBBH 2005 form?.... at least I hope I don't see a sherrin splattered on BBBBH nose in 2008 !:o

I reckon he could (if his speed off the mark improves ) do a Lockett... most of his were well timed leads but Plugger was a freak to be able to ALSO wrestle ..but when it was (now less so) legal!

it would be good for davis and all the other forwards if we delivered the ball quickly in to the forward line.
also we tend to kick to hall and magic in the pockets where they both tend to lead, maybe davis can be a decoy around the square.
this is where grundy suffered in the forward line,as he would lead up the centre but he would be ignored by the players upfield who only would pass to hall and magic.

on several occasions last season, davis showed his frustration at making leads that were continually ignored and instead the ball would be kicked to hall, out of form AND with 2-3 players hanging off him, or someone in the space in front of him
not professional of davo, but you can understand his feelings, which were shared by many swans fans
i'd have thought using baz as a decoy while hwas out of form last year would have been reasonable
i have no idea how things will pan out this year, we have to wait and see if the big feller IS fit and can get back to something like his best
but then you have to see how micky o comes up
still think ROK is under-used as a forward target
if he were used more consistently running through the middle, fair enough, but ... ah, geez ... i'm either cranky from impatience waiting for the season to start, or cranky from a resignation to seeing the same ol' same ol' when we get into the new season
