Most bands should quit after 2 maybe 3 albums tops. There are exceptions to every rule of course, but few bands have more than 2 or 3 good albums in them before they simply start repeating themselves.

The Cosmic Psychos are a prime example of this. One could well argue that their first 12" mini-album Down On The Farm was the band's crowning triumph (it was), but they did continue to tour and release quality up until Peter "Dirty" Jones left the band after the recording of Go The Hack. Everything after that was pretty much nonsense. But when they were good, they were great.
