Stay there. You could have the challenging job with the long hours, hard work and less pay. If you are lucky that your job is easy and you get paid very well, don't give it up as so many people would love to be in your position

I have a highly paid job however the work is really easy and not a challenge and spend half the day on the net. What do I do?

Very simple:

1. Calculate exactly how much you are getting paid (eg: $80k p/a).
2. Calculate what your actual output is in monetary tems (eg: $40k p/a)
3. Subtract output value from actual salary (eg: $80k - $40k = $40k).
4. PM me for bank account details.
5. Once you have acquired relevant banking details, please deposit surplus monies ($40k) into said account.
6. Feel less guilty about your excessive internet usage at work.

^ I like that idea, you can put a little in my account to, I will gladly give you the figures I require. You have options though, you can take a challenging lower paid job, or you can ask for more challenges....I am not sure your job so it's hard to say.

but if you want a challenge you can quit that job and find one that doesn't pay as well but has the challenge you want, I am sure you may change your mind after that. ;)

I'm in a similar situation. I get paid a lot of money to twidle my thumbs all day. Every now and then I have stuff to deal with, but generally I'm just hanging for lunch or home time.

I have people that work for me that do all the work. I don't know half the stuff they do (and I don't really care to know). I kind of feel like I should be doing something (because I have collegues in similar roles to mine who are always stressed and have too much work) yet I just kind of wait around til the day ends. I sit in meetings and have no friggin idea what people are talking about, I just daydream and nodd every now and then.

I'm a little scared of being found out, but the funny thing is that I just did my performance review and got a great score. Perception is a funny thing.

I guess the only difference with us is that I don't really want to be challenged, I'm just disinterested. I used to work really hard when I was on half the salary that I'm on now. Its funny how salary doesn't necessarily equal output. I was once a valuable employee, now I'm practically robbing them.

^ Is that you Sol? ;) That inverse relationship between output and wage...

I'm at uni so get various temp jobs and I find myself in the same situation as a couple of you - the difference is I get shit pay ($20 an hour).

You can swap jobs with me, I only spend a 1/4 of the day on the net.

Yeah I know, although I'm in an area where they never seem to touch...they generally go for the support jobs, and never touch my area which is the core of the Business (where it all happens). They can't really afford to as its where the money is made. Although looking at my current position, it is very dispensible. I'll probably have moved to another role before they come thru...but yeah they're coming.

If it happens, it happens. I"ll stick around til then. I've done 12 years so I should get a decent payout. No use jumping ship now with nothing.

that is not highly paid.

It's good coin if you're not long out of school or something, but you can certainly set your sights higher!

A survey was done in Melbourne last week of what a 2 Adult 2 Kid family needed to do OK, 150K was the answer

Don't believe every survey you see. I have 2 kids and owe about $70k on my mortgage the house would be worth $400k. So I live quite comfortably.

Bloody hell, that'd have to be a bloody stressful job. I probably shouldn't say this, but my mum was offered a Job for 80k per year, but she turned it down because she said it would be too stressful.

It was a survey of perception and 150K wouldn't get you a house anywhere near Toorak

I didn't say it would. I said if you have a house in Toorak, not looking to buy one, i.e. people who are likely to value the material things a lot more.

If 150K is "doing OK" then I imagine the definition of "OK" is much higher than reality.
