how about a kpi of 1 tackle per player per qtr, as a minimum

that would have an instant impact

Grimes - if we can get a top 30 pick, trade.
Edwards - trade if we can get a top 25 picks
Houli - keep as I doubt we'd get more than a top 30 pick for him.
Griffiths - trade for a top 30 pick
Miles - would put up for trade, but only for a top 20 pick. Happy to keep.
Conca - trade for a top 30 picks

If you could get something like that for those players, you'd go in head first.
That's a lot of good draft-able players, or just a lot of good points that can be used to trade up.

The pressure is on Richmond and given a 'potential' deep draft ahead, it makes sense to go in hard this year.

I don't post often here now because I have been trying to apply the long-winded and pointless supporter and club theory that 'patience and time' solves all a club's problems. Well, I've sat back, put on the 'patience mask' and watched as we've failed to achieve after a very long Hardwick tenure. We have failed as supporters looking in, all caused by the club failing us in numerous areas.

It's time for change. Waiting with fingers crossed and praying for the right people in the right positions has not worked. It's the right time now, this month, to prepare for Season 2017. The people that are grooming our players, their selection, their training, their game style have failed us. I'm a paid up full member and have been for decades. I have supported AND paid to support the club long before Peggy, Benny or Dimma even viewed a Richmond game or walked into Punt Road. I have seen our great eras. I have seen what has now happened to our club. We are a mess. Everybody directly involved with this current playing group has failed us and turned this team into mush, our culture into a pale shadow of itself, and turned the once ferocious Tiger heart into a poor beige replica. Nobody fears us. We are an AFL joke. The only group at the RFC that has performed since 1980, become stronger and fearless, is our supporter base. In numbers, we now need to call the shots loudly. Our supporter money is employing people to embarrass us.

This week:
  • Peggy & Benny need to sack all those involved with any past drafting and construct a new, modern Drafting Department. If you have to pay top dollar for a fresh set of people....do it. We immediately need a fresh, hungry Drafting Department for 2017, starting within the next couple of weeks.
  • Damian Hardwick needs to be released from his contract NOW...This week (pay him out). This team is not being coached now. Hardwick is in preservation mode, the RFC is in implosion mode. The excuses are over. 'Dimma's Dissection' need to be buried away in our history now. Immediately replace Hardwick with ANY temp Coach until Seasons end. The club needs rebooting, a rebirth. We are stale. Every Coaching process from now until the end of season must be new or different. Hardwick's systems must go. Erase it.
  • Jack Riewoldt needs be named Captain for the rest of the Season and for Season 2017. This man is the face and heart of Tigerland, on and off the field. Alex Rance becomes Vice Captain. Jack represents our extroverted old Richmond attacking heart as Leader. Alex represents the old defending, never give up Tiger. All Leadership groups and sub groups need to be disbanded immediately. Nobody else at Richmond deserves player driven decision making roles. All decisions now need to be made solely by both proven on-field performers, Jack and Alex. These two Generals cover the complete Richmond field of play. Nothing would be missed by having these two Generals watching the play. A Midfielder is too self absorbed in their own game and tussles to completely notice in-game positioning, movements and trends. We need elite players like Jack and Alex alone to call ALL the shots at Richmond.
  • Trent Cotchin goes back to becoming a regular, normal required player within the playing group. Cotchin needs to be just a needed cog in the Team and no longer a controlling figure in our short, failed game style of early 2016. And the Captaincy has become a burden to Cotchin. Cotchin is suffocating under the Captaincy. Sadly, Cotchin is not Captain material. Let Cotchin become a great team player instead, before we completely lose him mentally as a footballer.
  • Vickery is immediately told he WILL be traded at Season's end. That experiment is over. Anybody that thinks that Vickery can contribute to the RFC winning a flag by playing consistent football every week in the forward line, has been proven wrong.
  • At season's end, only those boys with extreme speed (if smaller), or larger monster style players will be drafted. Do not veer from this selection process. No middle of the road small players. We need players who can help win games, not just contribute with average physical abilities.
  • Jack is now fitter and strong enough to play as Captain at CHF in season 2017. Only those who can stand their ground in the goal square should be drafted at FF. We need to draft a tall young guy (no beanpoles) specifically for that position and/or Trav Cloke while he develops.
  • We aren't as fit as most teams, we aren't as strong, and we are lazy. All those that are currently moulding our playing group are the wrong people.
Change is needed while we have the time. We have the time to plan now. We have the time this week to redirect the club. I wonder if those at the club in positions of power, actually understand that the Tigers of old actually made strong, instant decisions based on belief in the Richmond way. The Richmond Football Club of the past was not based on slow, indifferent 5,6,7 year plans of misdirected patience. That experiment needs to be over. The new Tiger needs to be the Tiger of now. We prepare for now. We play for now.

Pull your finger out now Tigers. This week is the right time to put into action, a direct path to a different club from the failed one of 2016.
What an insightful post!!!!! Would find it difficult to disagree with anything published here. If you want to try to force the club to do something, print this out, make it a petition and mail it to the club. I'm gunna do it and if enough supporters do it, possibly, just possibly, someone will read it. We have been whingeing a lot about what should we do, "SO SEND THIS TO THE CLUB" even if you disagree with the odd point in here.
Great effort

I'm not saying we;d get those picks for those players, but they all have some sort of currency. Some we might get more for, some we'd get less.

I don't think it's unrealistic at all.

Conca could well appeal to WC or even Freo.
Edwards could also be appealing to Brisbane, Essendon........Carlton.
Griffiths? Maybe but if not Vickery would.

It's a game we all have to play now.
While many of our clubs may have been sitting on our hands, GWS are becoming almighty powerful......I know, I know....the AFL.
Point is that we're all going to be trying to get our timing right without necessarily turning off supporters in the meantime.
Carlton lucked it in last year. I say lucked because no matter how well we did plan, we couldn't have imagined it coming off as well as it did.
No runs on the board yet, but no Carlton person would want to go back to 'the way it was'

Are we going after a big fish ? The club has gone quiet in this area. Normally they would be pumping out the spin advertising by now.

here you go

That's 17 spots that we could turn over in a pre season.
This is madness. No sensible club would get rid of almost half its senior list (17/38) (that is, excluding rookies). You'd never be able to replace them adequately, and it would ruin the culture at the club. Many of those guys are contracted for next year. You do know that contracted players have a say in whether they move to another club?

I don't get this general obsession with decimating the list of your good players in the vain hope of landing some rippers in the draft. So many draftees fail. There's no guarantee a top ten pick will play more than a handful of games. As for trading players in and out, aren't you more likely to get greater loyalty and service from a player that wants to be a one-club player than getting a few blokes who are just chasing the big bucks?

and thinking that we need a full team of A graders....

I don't think our list is as bad as some make out. There's definitely some plodders (looking at you Ty) and cloggers but with the right game plan i reckon they'd thrive. 2013 showed this. But the right game plan has to come from the right coach...

The main culprits of the latest Tigers demise are O’Neil, Hardwick, Dan Richardson, Francis Jackson and Blair Hartley and they should be removed.
Here’s why:

(I will spare Brendan Gale for now because he is CEO and seems capable enough and we still need at least 1 person to steer the ship. But he does not escape criticism because it was he who extended Hardwick’s contract when it wasn’t required and it was he that said the club needed money and resources to compete against the top clubs. We gave him all the money he needed and has it been well spent?? No.)

  • Peggy O’Neil – President. Was the person who extended Hardwick’s contract when she didn’t need to which has now painted us into a ugly corner. You could say we’re stuck between a rock and a Hardwick. Now we have a lame duck coach who will need to be paid out 2 years or $1.5 million. That’s money Richmond fans donated to the Fighting Tiger Fund to get the club out of it’s debt hole. She also blocked change agent/agitator Joe Russo from a Board position. There are too many stale, uninventive lawyers on the Richmond Board and she’s just another one of them.
  • Hardwick. Has no Plan B in coaching and his current game plan is a total stinker. Over the years we were told by him “the Richmond jumper will never hit the ground” which means the players will have respect for the club and supporters and never give up. I’m not seeing much signs of this as we endure thrashings. Another famous Hardwick quote is we need to be “harder for longer”. Well that’s a fail. Or how about his quotes “We need to get better”. Instead we’re getting worse. Or how about we want to play “the Richmond Way”. What is that, anyway? He’s a clueless coach with a poor game plan that doesn’t inspire anyone. Good coaches don’t need 7 years to get us to where we first started – back to the bottom. Good coaches like Beveridge and Bolten get immediate results and have their team playing the right way from the start.
  • Dan Richardson – Football Manager. Has promised us a “big fish” recruit over many years but never delivered. Instead he got Hampson who is an incapable footballer, and Yarran who they already knew was having personal troubles and has not played and game and perhaps never will. We’re sitting on supposedly a “war chest” of money to land a big fish but it looks like it will be spent paying out Hardwick when he’s sacked.
  • Francis Jackson – Chief Recruiter. Has shown an inability to pick talent during drafts. Picked Conca when the next pick was Heppell. Picked Ben Lennon instead of Patrick Cripps. Picked Corey Ellis who looks like another Aaron Fiora. Where are McBean and Elton at? The have been on the list for many years and have barely played. Jake Bachelor is a struggler. Griffiths, Vickery and Astbury are average. He can’t identify a good second rounder or beyond (do McDonnough and Arnot ring a bell just to name a few?). Our VFL side is near the bottom and lose every week.
  • Blair Hartley – the architect of the recycled players strategy – Maric, Grigg, Houli, Hampson, Hunt, Thomas, Pettard, Chaplin, Yarran, Moore, Townsend, Lambert, Morris. His only success was Miles and that was a fluke. Apparently they didn’t want to get him. For years we have needed a small high pressure forward and Jeff Garlett was cheap. They didn’t take him.. Port’s Aaron Young wanted to come back home to Victoria last year – instead they chose Moore. Mistake after mistake after mistake.
We have now wasted 17 years of rebuilds (Frawley, Wallace, Hardwick) and we are no where near closer to winning a final or even contending for a Premiership.

So what’s the solution?

*THE SOLUTION IS JASON DUNSTALL. He’s a great footy brain and fixed Hawthorn all those years ago. Use our supposed “war chest” to get him to Richmond so he can put in place the right coaches, recruiters, player list and development and training staff.
