What do you do with Shane Watson?

Mitch Marsh already averages more with the bat from 4 matches.

Bowling average is horrible (one wicket from 4 matches will do that) but isn't really meaningful but he's capable of bowling 20 over spell if called upon.

Bit hard to step up when you come into the test side, outperform the guy you're competing with then get injured and not recalled despite outperforming the guy you're competing with by a huge margin in the warm up matches.

If 34 year old Shane Watson scored 87 he'd have a spot for life. When 23 year old Mitch Marsh does it we give Watson another go.

I take exception to this. He doesn't have to score anything of the sort. More like the odd 37 and he's right.

Seriously, they'll just keep picking for reasons of fantasy and myth.

Him only playing 4 matches means his average should be higher. You do understand how averages work don't you?

He's 23 with bugger all experience of international cricket. If his average is higher than Watson's it's because Watson's batting fell off a cliff about three years ago. Maybe four.

Watson 4th highest score of the innings. Give him the test of the series

Watson was picked 1) because of his experience and 2) his bowling is better suited

When it was crunch time, a time for Watson to lead, he added 4 (?) runs from his overnight score.

He bowled 8 out of 102 overs for 0/24.

The selectors can seriously not persist with him. Failure upon failure in the test arena for 4 years now.

Possible failure vs guaranteed failure

I don't need a 50:50, I won't dial a friend, I will lock in Mitch Marsh, thanks very much.

Watto = latter day Dirk Welham (sans iq)

I couldn't agree more. I wasn't downgrading Marsh. He should be given a proper chance, like Watson has been given. Though maybe not 2 or 3 years of mediocrity.

Been a failure for 10 years, weak as piss, adios shit truck!
I actually find myself barracking for England to make our selectors get rid of Haddin, Watson and Johnson.

Harsh on Johnson. He was ok, flat track and poor field placings by Clarke. On a pitch with bounce I would go for him over Starc.

Haddin is a bit like the Northerly come back. Like the bloke, always showed a bit of fight but just not up to it and showing his age.

didnt see the innings because of work, but did Watson review the LBW, or were they all used up?

We should keep playing Watson until he gets a ton or a 5 wicket haul.

We all know it's in him. He just needs the opportunity!

Really need Clarke to bowl him more if he is to keep his spot. The selectors have made it known that he is in there because he is a better bowler than Marsh (which I agree with) but if he is only bowling 13 overs an match out of 170 that simply isn't enough. By comparison Stokes bowled 14 in Australia's first innings and is a much better batsman.
